I’ve been working on my novel The Austens for a long time, and I’m having a big party to celebrate the launch (& Jane Austen’s 250th birthday & the Austen family’s connections with Nova Scotia). October 21st, Regency Ballroom, Lord Nelson Hotel, Halifax.

Read @buriedinprint.bsky.social's review of Nina Berkhout's This Bright Dust (pub. @gooselane.bsky.social) in Issue 31!

...Berkhout’s work as a poet is also evident here, as she gently but relentlessly immerses readers in this dustbowl-era setting...

The cover of Nina Berkhout's novel This Bright Dust. It looks like a watercolor painting of a few houses on the prairies, with the most of the painting consisting of the large blue sky

Read @buriedinprint.bsky.social's review of Rod Moody-Corbett's Hides (pub. @breakwaterbooks.bsky.social) in Iss 31!

...we realise just how delicately he has held this whole mess in his storyteller’s grip, how tenderly he has pressed and released this story...

The cover of Hides, by Rod Moody-Corbett. The background is a dark gold. There are similar but reversed paintings at the top and bottom; the painting at the top is upside down, so that the heads of the figures in both the top and bottom paintings point towards the title in the middle of the cover. The paintings depict what might be a field, with the skull of an ox in the lower one

💐📖 Budge Wilson and L.M. Montgomery are deeply connected. The two writers had each occupied, as young women, decades apart, the "Third-and-a-Half” room in Halifax Ladies’ College.

Now, Wilson will join Montgomery as another great Canadian writer whose work is honoured by a Project Bookmark plaque.
