This really is the central problem of the west currently that economically marginal voters want one type of economy, but culturally they absolutely do want it.

These jobs are not coming back and Clinton got pilloried in 2016 from the left and right for admitting that, but this wider inability to admit it is a lot what drives to populist turn in the West.

Yeah what a lot of people want is the 2019 service economy with cheap prices! But also they absolutely will hate you for saying that really is what they want.

it is easier to make this argument now that we see what happens when free trade is undone, but you do you

Basically this was the entire logic fo neoliberalism and globalization - yes lots of job destruction, but prices falling on all kinds of goods and new jobs in new areas. It was taken as gospel that all of it was a net benefit, but that's a bit harder argument to make these days.

The WH and OMB have played this all pretty badly, then again they are all super geniuses that Dems do not really stand up to or so I am told

Speaker Johnson appears to say furloughed federal workers should get back pay under 2019 law

"It has always been the case. It is tradition and I think it is statutory law that federal employees be paid. And that’s my position."

I just assume they never are, lol

After the election a bunch of people said "the media environment is kinda fucked" and then turned around and really fucked it some more.

I will add: this is not a reason for nihilism. Trump is unpopular and weak. But we can literally see where he is unpopular and weak: it’s above all on issues like the economy, inflation, and healthcare. This is the territory Dems should fight on because it’s the territory they are going to *win* on

Sorry but if there is one single US political proposition that we have tested to destruction in recent years, it’s the idea that a critical mass of swing voters see democracy vs authoritarianism as a crucial and salient issue in judging Trump. They simply do not! I don’t like it either

You people wouldn't know good politics if it bit you in the ass

These are the headlines Dems are getting for once and the polls to match, but there clout to chase and audiences to capture on niche microblogging sites

Politico: Republicans in disarray MSNBC: Republicans are cucks NYT: health care is awesome Daily Beast: lol Republicans’ polls suck

The Dems orchestrating the most successful political messaging campaign of this administration and it's all bad from the people who asked them to do this the loudest.

That's what they've been doing, to the point that people on here constantly yell at them for being too narrowly focused on these issues.
Once again, I’m wondering why Democrats aren’t running with a straightforward message of “despotism is un-American and unaffordable” right now and all the way into the midterms.

Besides the latent 9th dimensionial chess of it all.
convolutedname.bsky.social
I think this is my central objection to it really. All stick all the time is a dumb plan the lack of a carrot is the central thing Dems already successfully latched on to besides calling out abuses of power.
convolutedname.bsky.social
Also while he might be right about these voters, they also care about their wallets and all stick all the time is doing nothing for them herem

I mean sure, it's all stick all the time. But not the argument from the OP.
convolutedname.bsky.social
Anyways all this stuff is too 9th dimension level chess to me and the bad stuff happening is bad enough to warrant Dem opposition without an opposing 9th dimension level Dem plan.

I say that not because of credentialism or anything, but that his ideas of how to use the law are basic at best and not some genius way to interpret it.
