Here's a simple rule of thumb. If something in the US looks dystopian, if it looks like Europe has some privilege or right or blessing that the US lacks, from sick leave to vacation time to food safety, there's a corporate organization with teams of lawyers and lobbyists keeping it that way.

Tonight is Christmas Eve, when we in Iceland open presents. All the Yule Lads have already come down from the mountains, but tonight the Yule Cat arrives and he will eat all the children who weren't gifted any new clothes for Christmas.
