Persona aims for a small town feel with strong results, imo. Great social links. Interesting explorations into duality, inner conflict, and gender/sexual expression... even though Atlus kind of chickens out. The comedy aged POORLY. So close yet so far. A quality game despite itself.

One of the best tactical RPGs of all time gets voice acting and convenient QoL features. Not a big fan of all the extra yapping they added - often redundant and a bit heavy handed. This is still a favorite of mine, now and forever.

Was surprised by the charm of this shoe-string budget game. Main characters are flashy and the Digimon look good. The story is cozy anime nonsense but the translation does it no favors. Great gameplay for collecting and grinding. Min-maxing being time-gated sucked.

The sequel brings back everything from the first game except more of it. Plot is a mess. Characters still babble in circles too much. The game gives you very little guidance where to go next. Great graphics, music, gameplay, and puzzles. A GBA classic.

Sam's player didn't want to play, but other players insisted. Not wanting to stand out, they chose to RP a humble helper. Their RP was scarce, but stunning. When Frodo failed his wisdom saves in Mordor, Sam succeeded on his strength checks, and the whole table hooted and hollered.

His player was really close with the DM, and helped set the whole thing up. Thus got to be the fate-touched character of the campaign. Almost a co-DM, the DM worked closely with Frodo's player on their very atypical, narrative heavy side of the campaign.

AKA Merry and Pippin. Their players were best friends IRL. They started out treating the game as a big joke, rubbing the DM the wrong way. However, they got really into it as time went on.

He's played by a 15 year vet who takes everything extremely seriously. Swings for the fences with RP, builds the most powerful characters. Super dramatic. The DM gave them many important story beats because of this. A great player, though, has a proclivity for self-important grandstanding.

Gandalf is 100% the DM's epic self-insert NPC. The Deus ex machina is crazy. Always comes at "the turn of the tide." Has all the answers. Has a bunch of speeches prepared. DM got a little carried away, some think.

Boromir's player was the friend who wasn't as well known to the rest of the group. Got mad at the DM and claimed he purposefully killed his character as punishment for trying to steal Frodo's epic item. Left the table shortly after. Was awkward.
(I know. Boromir is actually awesome.)
