Captured something interesting a couple of days ago - colourful satellites. I've seen blue Starlinks before but not green and blue ones together. What's with the different colours? Apparently it's all to do with different coatings they have. More info in the ALT. #Astronomy #Space #Astrophotography
Two Starlink satellite trails, one green and one blue. They are passing through Gemini on 5 October 2025 at 04:35 UT. The bright stars above the green trail are Castor and Pollux. The bright object at the end of the blue trail is Jupiter. Taken with a Canon 600D and 50mm lens at 10s exp, 50mm fl, f/1.8, ISO-800.

I know that the blue ones are due to a coating on the newer 'Direct to Cell' satellites that is supposed to make them less visible in the night sky. Apparently the latest coatings have a green hue, meant to make them even less visible (I assume). Satellite mega constellations are the vermin of the sky but in some circumstances make for an interesting picture.

Einstein got it "for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect", Peebles "for theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology" with *no* specific work mentioned. Can't find the specific rule which this violated now but saw one in 2019.

I guess some proof can't hurt:
With proper processing of that image and don't just showing the raw version which is super noisy, you can see some familiar stars like Arcturus and the the big dipper.
And that streak is turns out to be exactly where Phobos was in the sky...
Processed version of the Perseverance Navcam image from Sol 1643 with all the noise removed. It shows a much larger area of sky than the infamous raw image because it was stitched from 16 individual tiles which are sent separately. 
It shows a dark sky with a couple of stars sprinkled around. The brightest is Arcturus at the top center, and the handle of the big dipper can be seen below. On the left is a bright streak with a halo, this is the moon Phobos. Sreenshot from Stellarium showing the same Starfield with a red box indicating the FOV of Nacam (not considering the Fisheye nature of that lens). 
The stars match up perfectly with Navcam, especially Phobos can be clearly identified as such. 
Comet 3I/Atlas is marked in red and should be in the middle of the frame, but  is so much darker than any stars in the actual Navcam image that it will be impossible to detect there.

Aren't such lifetime achievement awards explicitly banned in the Nobel rules which demand a particular achievement to be honored? (The prize for Jim Peebles seems to have violated that, though.)
