Anyway, if you want to learn about the U.S. territories, read my book!

I traveled more than 30,000 miles to report it. Deep-dive history. Legal analysis. Tons of interviews. Funny travel stories.

Smithsonian said it was one of the 10 best travel books of the year!

Reminds me of the how Akira Kurosawa learned he won the Golden Lion in 1951 for Rashomon. Quick story for y'all!

While he thought the film was a flop, a woman named Giuliana Stramigioli, who was President of Italifilm (and a huge weeb) insisted it be Japan's entry at the Venice Film Festival.

the most delightful version of logging on to see what news you've missed
Dr Ramsdell, whose phone had been on airplane mode when the Nobel committee tried to call him, told the BBC's Newshour Programme that his first response when his wife said, "You've won the Nobel prize" was: "I did not."

To which Ms O'Neill replied that she had 200 text messages that suggested he had.

I feel like there's a lesson here about grind culture and creativity.

All brought to you by the same group that in a previous episode staged a riot inside the national capital to disrupt and prevent the legal transfer of power to their political rivals after losing an election

I know it’s easy to get inured to this stuff but imagine a podcast ep where @mikeduncan.bsky.social is telling you about this happening in some other country at the same time that a crisis in parliament has shut down the national budget.

Presidents have federalized a state's own Guard to use over its objection, most famously desegregation. And sometimes regular military has been used. But taking one state's soldiers and putting them in another state? This is a completely unprecedented breakdown of what the Union fundamentally is.

I just bought $23(!!!) tickets on Stubhub for Paul McCartney in Minneapolis next week.

I've seen him 5 times and never paid under $100.

I wouldn't sleep on those 🎟 if you're interested. I sent a mass email to all my music students parents letting them know those are available.

Given the other recipes/dishes on the American culinary scene in that era, I'm certain this was an earnest attempt at fancy food. Sometimes I wonder if every cookbook author in the 1970s was high all the time because none of the food makes sense.

Important question: How is the beer list there?

Foods that genuinely taste better in their cheapest, most basic format:

- nachos
- garlic bread
- ???

Yeah you could add meat or fancier cheese or salsa or whatever and those are all good but hear me out: cheap cheese melted on cheap corn chips will always hit the spot on their own

I am a fan of pepperoni, pineapple, and jalapeño pizza, and I will never feel shame about this.

I've gotten some shit for liking pepperoni and pineapple
