In other news, "Caniacs" will now be known as Canecels. We must all join the Canecel Culture.

(This is just so bad)

Y’all… what? Fire them into the sun.

Ours is EASILY the worst, but if these are team-generated, s/o to the social media team in Washington understanding the assignment perfectly.

It will never cease to amaze me that all the money in the world ended up in the hands of people who have no idea what "scarcity" means, let alone how to solve for it.

ANDREESSEN: Even if AI ends up destroying all the jobs, “the result would be hyper-deflation of prices, which is the thing that people miss. .. Things that today cost a lot of money will all of a sudden be cheap or free.”

That "to" is now on the list of social media grammar errors that will haunt me forever.

At the time, Daiei, the studio, considered Western festivals to expensive to take part in due to printing costs. But Stramigioli insisted, and so Rashomon went to Venice practically unadvertised. Those who have seen the film won't be shocked to hear it was the talk of the festival.

When Kurosawa came home, Yaguchi informed her husband that he had "won the Grand Prix." He thought she was teasing him, but as it turned out, he had become Japan's most celebrated director, a Golden Lion winner, and an Academy Award winner while basically knowing nothing about it.

Rashomon takes home the Golden Lion, but Kurosawa had no idea. No one had bothered to tell the director his film had even been exhibited. So how did he find out?

They called him - or they tried, but because of the time difference, the director was away, and his wife, Yoko Yaguchi, got the call

Reminds me of the how Akira Kurosawa learned he won the Golden Lion in 1951 for Rashomon. Quick story for y'all!

While he thought the film was a flop, a woman named Giuliana Stramigioli, who was President of Italifilm (and a huge weeb) insisted it be Japan's entry at the Venice Film Festival.

the most delightful version of logging on to see what news you've missed
Dr Ramsdell, whose phone had been on airplane mode when the Nobel committee tried to call him, told the BBC's Newshour Programme that his first response when his wife said, "You've won the Nobel prize" was: "I did not."

To which Ms O'Neill replied that she had 200 text messages that suggested he had.

The Phantom's Revenge is the greatest electronic artist you've never heard of. 17 years later, my jaw is still on the floor. Ahead of his time by decades.

I met a pig farmer in a bar once. I asked him what they were like. He said "Like dogs, but without the loyalty. They're really smart, but definitely never turn your back on a pig."
faineg.bsky.social
i have met a number of pigs, including pigs i later went on to eat (we have small farmers in our family) and quite frankly, getting to know pigs has made me feel even less bad about eating them

they would 100% eat us if given the chance

There's definitely some areas you could find fault with (Mid-Atlantic should be two regions, as one example: Greater Philadelphia & The DMV), but I really dig some of the touches.

Raleigh being right on the border of Old Piedmont & New Piedmont in particular feels extremely accurate
williamhazen.bsky.social
This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

Very weird that Mid-Atlantic isn't split into "Greater Philadelphia" and "The DMV"
