When I go into detail moving through these things day-by-day week-by-week rather than just skipping from one Big Event to the next, I'm hoping the listeners take away that even a revolution is a slow moving process with lots of downtime and accumulation of small events

All brought to you by the same group that in a previous episode staged a riot inside the national capital to disrupt and prevent the legal transfer of power to their political rivals after losing an election

I know it’s easy to get inured to this stuff but imagine a podcast ep where @mikeduncan.bsky.social is telling you about this happening in some other country at the same time that a crisis in parliament has shut down the national budget.

Presidents have federalized a state's own Guard to use over its objection, most famously desegregation. And sometimes regular military has been used. But taking one state's soldiers and putting them in another state? This is a completely unprecedented breakdown of what the Union fundamentally is.

I was for some reason supremely zen yday. Built a dresser while watching the game. We lost. OK. Tonight finally got to me and I spent the last two innings pacing nonstop

Many thanks to Cal Raleigh for making @mikeduncan.bsky.social and I's effusive praise on the podcast yesterday quite topical. Mike rules and this episode was extremely fun!

"The high-water mark of America’s influence over the world has come and gone. All empires are transitory, right? If you rise, you’re inevitably going to stagnate and fall," says American political history author and podcaster @mikeduncan.bsky.social.

I'm only half kidding when I say my last remaining ambition is to get us on an episode of Nailed It. We made this exploding Nerds Cake the other day just for the hell of it

Well as it happens me and my daughter do a lot of baking together so yeah it's prob gonna smell like cupcakes or cookies. But if you're in my house that means you'll get a cupcake or a cookie!

For the uninitiated I was asked in the 250th Episode Q&A what, in my opinion, was the most accurate movie about the Romans and I said "Rome vs. Rome" starring John Drew Barrymore

Truly this is one of the greatest jokes I have ever given myself and it's amazing it's still coming up 10+ years late. A gift from me to me
mzrad.bsky.social
Haha, pulled up _Rome versus Rome_ on the YouTube and the comments contained a not insignificant number of people blaming you for directing them there. Really appreciate your podcasts: thanks!

When my turn in the A.V. Club Staff Pick rotation came up this time, I really couldn't think of anything I'd stump harder for than @mikeduncan.bsky.social's Martian Revolution season of Revolutions - partly because I was skeptical, and would have appreciated someone else giving me the heads-up.

I was opening old baseball card packs last year and decided to see what 40yo gum tasted like from a 1986 Topps back and boy was it...awful. Do not recommend. Not even as a bit

Then I got better but the skin on the bottom of both my feet basically rotted off over the next two weeks. When it was all over I said to the doctor "so now that I've had it I can't get it again right?" and he goes "no."

Stupidest MFing sickness I've ever had. 3yo kid got the least of it but me and her had ~36hrs of being as sick as we've ever been in our lives. We were at 30min shifts before switching off cause that's all either of us could handle.
