Two big pines down at Derry footbridge too, right in the river. It suddenly feels much more open and bright there. #rangerdailydiary

Two panoramas from today's beautiful stravaig at Invercauld. Very windy, which was nice actually as it keeps you cool and keeps the keds away 😉

October is often one of the most unsettled months in NW Europe but the outlook over next 2 weeks is significantly drier than average.

It feels more a question of how notably dry this year is going to be….

It wasn't autumn when I left Mar Lodge to go on holiday. I've come back two weeks later to find that not only has someone applied a yellow filter to everything, they've also topped-up the rivers 🙂

Walked to this fine building, the Fleece Inn, with my brother-in-law for the start of his shift. Lovely place to sup a (CAMRA) pint....and check out the haunted shoes 😉 Owned by the National Trust and, just the other week, it was full of Nigels! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Here's the updated visual representation of my weather dataset. Shows the last 177 calendar months in the Lomond Hills vs my long-term average (Dec 2010 on the far left, Sept 2025 on the far right).

Blue = colder than average
Green = equal to average
Red = warmer than average

There were no days when a gale was recorded (average wind speed of 40mph). A high gust of 38.7mph was recorded on the 18th. Rainfall was 71.2mm, which is more than double the rainfall of September 2024.

Interestingly, the minimum temperature recorded in September has very slightly decreased over the 15yrs I've been in Fife. Few, if any other temperature measures throughout the rest of the year have done so. Everything else is on the increase, albeit at different rates depending on the month.

The warmest day of 18.4C was 2.6C below my average Sept max, and the coolest max since 2017. My hottest Sept day is an exceptional 25.5C, recorded in 2021. The coldest night of 3.5C was 1.5C colder than than my average September low, but 1.1C warmer than my all-time coldest Sept night (in 2012).

The average temp of 11.5C was 0.1C cooler than my long term average, making it my 7th coolest September. Still much warmer than my coldest Sept (10.2C in 2011), and way behind my warmest (13.7C in 2021).

Days and nights were both 0.1C cooler than my average.

🧵⬇️ Here's the weather data for September 2025 in the Lomond Hills.

It was middling, although might have felt cool to some people because recent Septembers (2021 2022 2023) have been very warm. It was (only just) the first cooler than average month since January. #Fife

Just published 🙂 I've been wanting to write about the rut for years but never had the piccies to back it up till last autum 🦌. It certainly helps when it's happening right outside your house.

Ah, I haven't been to the Clova Hotel since before covid. Had amazing Guinness Cake there 🙂

I was driving over the Cairnwell at about 6.30 this evening and can definitely confirm it was ‘interesting’. 💨

While I think it's an amazing idea, I'm glad I was there at 2pm on a weekday 😆
