"The single most important behaviour, design or regulation for creating streets conducive to walking and cycling, was physical separation between the modes"

We've got a new study out, learning from a broad mixture of street users, planners and designers

www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Highlights
For marginalised street users mode separation is the key to human-scale movement.
Streets conducive to walking and cycling have functional, safe and accessible design.
Professionals must approach street design, regulation and user behaviour holistically.
Combinations of influencing factors persuade people to either use or avoid a street.
There are no easy fixes to the public realm that will work for all non-drivers.

NEW: breach of Discord age verification data.

Including some users passports & DLs

Age verification is a badly implemented data grab wrapped in a moral panic.

Mark my words, as age verification mandates expand, we'll end up more surveilled and less secure. 1/

Storm have 4 in 27 years, with 2 others stripped. If they weren't, that's slightly more than the Broncos strike rate

You can tell a city has a bike culture from the number of bike parks there are, and the types of bikes using them. Florence is clearly a city people love to roll around.

60... and the motorways are still busy.

All these Just For Men beard nazis sitting on their phones then running like dinky dog catchers after the nearest brown person. Like just any non-white person in the vicinity is their target and I can’t believe Dems aren’t saying fuck this we’re shutting down the government.

A Melbourne vs Penrith grand final would be incredibly dull.

A Melbourne vs Broncos grand final would be less dull.

A Sharks vs Penrith grand final less dull again.

A Sharks vs Broncos grand final least dull. First title for 9 or 19 years.

Do the right thing, footy gods #nrl

It's the old right-wing playbook of demonizing the homeless, gutting programs and essential services that eradicate homelessness, then further demonizing them as a drain on resources and a threat to social cohesion.

You can always judge a society on how they treat their most vulnerable citizens.

Sadly the current right-wing coalition government in Finland has cut the funding for the nation’s “Housing First” success story, & homelessness is now on the rise again. That just reinforces the fact that such programs work, if political ideology doesn’t stand in the way.
