My partner and I are getting ready to buy a house. There’s a lot of ducks to get in a row still! And we’re learning a lot! The most important thing we learned is that low income people can buy a house!! I’m going to make a pinned thread of local #pdx resources for others to use or to donate to.
I’m so behind on taking pictures of my work. 😫 I made these for the kids I nanny. Never made 3D letters before, the J was so hard! It was a good exercise in using my odd bits of old yarn.

If you read one story today, it should be this article by an incarcerated writer that includes the plot point "but then there were kittens"
"I had not touched a cat in 15 years when an orange kitten wandered over to sit with me in the grass one day. I was left without adequate words to describe that experience. It reminded me that I am alive."
When Kittens Came to My Prison, I Had Not Petted One in 15 Years

Meant to do this when I started the project! I’m crocheting a snowflake to put into every holiday card I send out this year. I’m using a different pattern for every snowflake! Just finished this one!

The tutorial I followed! I reduced a few rows at the bottom of the triangular portion because I was running low on the lighter grey. I also added a row of SC to each of the rings with the darker grey, which seemed to help make them sturdier since I used a very soft cotton there.

Stretch. And do it way more than you think you should. It sounds funny but you don’t realize how much your mobility matters until an injury.
Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

🌟 very sad that my dear friend Jane Goodall has died. we were 1st in contact via fax letters to her home in Bournemouth, UK. we met in 1999, hit it off. she inspired me to write 3 songs: Counting On You, Roots & Shoots Everywhere and my tribute, Jane Jane (with her own chimp sounds). #RIPJaneGoodall

Say hello (again) to Helen 💙

Reintroducing Helen, one of my very first colorways, named for my grandmother, whose favorite color was blue. This updated version stays true to her spirit with a bold mix of deep, dark blue and bright, vibrant blue.

Short thread:

1) I agree this is gross

2) Virtually every jail in the United States operates the same way

3) Most every low security prison in the United States operates in the same way

(I was incarcerated in 160 person pole barns that look just like those pods)
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz after touring "Alligator Alcatraz": "These detainees are living in cages. The pictures you've seen don't do it just. They are essentially packed into cages. 34 detainees per cage...they get their drinking water & they brush their teeth where they poop, in the same unit"

Good move but to hell with the situation
🚨BREAKING: Cal State LA just moved classes online and let faculty work remotely, not for a storm, not for COVID, but because ICE is in the area.

Let that sink in, an entire university is treating immigration enforcement like a public health crisis.

On June 19 we celebrate #Juneteenth, in honor of the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally got word that they were free—a full two years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Here are some historic public domain photos of carriages decorated for Juneteenth. 1/3
