As a local, I'm pretty sure these bridges are known as "Snail Bridges" not "Snake". Designed so the horse didn't need to be untethered from the narrow boat when crossing the canal.

Once, our band wrote a Xmas song, recorded it & made a few quid for our local hospice. Sold a bunch of CDs, online donations, made the local rag & radio & were then asked to play in front of 3K at Dougie Mac Xmas concert at Stoke City's ground! #punk #xmas #crazy

I'm hearing criticisms of the end to the two child limit, because it was done just to mollify Labour backbenchers, at a cost of £billions.
