While driving I realized my vision is blurry.

Grew concerned.

Then remembered I have been reading every free minute since the holidays began.

No longer concerned, but am torn between letting my eyes rest or reading more chapters....

...vision is not that important, right????

What the hell did I just read??? And, more importantly, can I have some more?!??!
Very weird. Very unique. And very well written. Took me a couple of hours after the last page to get back in sync with our reality.

Today in "linguists are NOT KIDDING when we say that your knowledge of language enables you to understand sentences that have never before been uttered"
no no the publishing industry is doing fine, why do you ask

I've wanted to reread this for a long time. Finally got it from the library and very happy to realize it is just as fabulous as remembered (originally pubbed in 2013). 📚

Lexicon by Max Barry.

I have not stopped thinking about this since I finished it. It was fast-paced, disturbing, and absolutely compelling. Weirdly, it hit the linnguistic spot that was left by my disappointment with Babel by R F Kuang.

An uneven piece about "brain-rot language", which seems to mean online phrasal frames used offline. She has the sense to refer to @gretchenmcc.bsky.social's excellent book, but still says disapprovingly "brain-rot language is a verbal crutch" before shrugging. 1/

Anyone else read the dialogue in "Service Model" by @aptshadow.bsky.social in the same tone as "Oh, honey, no." A little sad. A little disappointed. All empathetic. 💙📚👀 #booksky

One thing I learned from reading “I’m Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom” by @jasonkpargin.bsky.social is that he needs to spend less time on reddit. The descriptions of the reddit drama are just way too accurate! PS: really want to try Creamsicle moonshine now...
