Captions Panel 1: Coworker 1 “Hey, I haven’t seen Colleen in a while.” Coworker 2: “She said she was recovering the sports section.” Panel 2: Coworkers: “…Should we check on her?” -Meanwhile- *Colleen, buried under a mountain of tee shirts while a customer looks on, unconcerned* Customer: *holds up a shirt* “Hey, y’all got this in an XL?” Context: Two female coworkers are working a hectic Saturday in retail (one at the register, the other folding a tee shirt) and realize their fellow coworker Colleen hasn’t returned from their task of gathering the messed up, unfolded shirts from the sports section. They debate going to check on her. Their concern was justified, as Colleen is buried under a huge ass pile of sports themed t-shirts because the sports section of the store gets messed up the most. Despite her predicament, a customer, wearing a baseball cap and holding a shirt on a hanger, asks her to get him the same shirt in a different size. Colleen can’t move, so she awaits her saviors (or to perhaps become a tee shirt herself via osmosis!)

My brother used to draw me comics when we were growing up. This one has always been my favorite.
A scribbled drawing done by a child of Gandalf throwing a dodo off a cliff shouting, fly you fools. Frodo is behind him shouting Gandalf! At the bottom of the cliff is a bunch of scribbles representing dead dodos. A square caption reads the real reason dodos are extinct.

the swamp of despair (from 2018)
A graph titled “The Creative Process” showing a cute pumpkin girl going through stages of making something. She starts out high up, “I just had the best idea!!!” and starts sliding down a hill “this isnt as simple as I expected.” She winds up in The Swamp of Despair (two skulls say: “this part sucks! don’t give up!”) She says, “this sucks, I suck. Why am I wasting my time.” She crawls her way out of the swamp “it’s not perfect but I’m going to finish” and crests the final hill, “it’s done??? I lived???” Finally, she walks away from it all, glittering with pride. “This turned out pretty good!”

In each panel, my cartoon self is bundled tightly in a blanket. In the final two panels, I am joined by my cat Crook, also bundled in a blanket in solidarity. An illustration of my character in stardew, decked out with an iridium fishing rod, space boots, all the keys you can collect, horse flute, and skull tshirt. My character is realizing, on Fall day 1, that I made the most basic mistake and forgot to harvest my melons before the seasons changed and I am blaming my cat, whom I’ve also named Crook in-game. Our turnip head rarecrow looks on sadly, having scared away many a crow to protect these now rotten melons!

Fun fact in the mean time: i used to be more of a realism artist and primarily did pet portraits for money. I don’t do them anymore, but I’m still proud of the experience. If I hadn’t, I don’t know if I’d have had the courage to teach myself cartooning and animation at 30. Art’s a journey!

This is how I cope with the state of the world
