Little thing to notice if you vote by mail. Especially for the northwest where vote by mail is very popular. Especially Oregon where there is no in person voting at all.
USPS quietly changed its postmark rules — mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The “official” date is when it hits automated sorting — sometimes days later

Which could have major implications for mail in voting — it’s a clever way to disenfranchise voters that’s going largely overlooked

The White House claims the vote to rename the Kennedy Center was “unanimous.” That is false. I was muted on the call and denied the opportunity to speak or register my opposition. That is not consensus. That is censorship.

I mentioned a picture in another post. Not as great a picture as I remember but the version of that sunset over the Nisqually valley is great in my memory.

@democratswin.bsky.social could you space out your postings a little?

My following feed is like 50 consecutive posts by you. I'm scrolling a mile to see anything else. If you space them out like ten minutes between then I'd have 4 or 5 posts between each of yours.

Someone definitely confused science with philosophy.

Science is falsifiable, that's how to contest it's claims. If it's not falsifiable its religion, misc beliefs, or philosophy.

Philosophy is where you argue against it and develop a better argument that is more accepted and preferred.
JD Vance: "Science as practiced in its best form is that if you disagree with it, then you ought to criticize it and you ought to argue against it."

I think the best part of cancelling subscriptions is that we get to save money and feel a pull back to owning physical copies of media.

Companies really underestimated the vulnerability they created in chasing recurring revenue. Now any brand damage can immediately land. Boycotts hit harder now.

Easy picking for my block list today. Anyone misrepresenting the facts, with a post history of similar bullshit and I'm presuming of a bot and blocking.

If you're so misinformed that you look like bot spam propaganda, get a damn education and learn about the world.

I have seen a few bits of reporting that hegseth is terrified of being assassinated.

I'm glad for that for him. It might prompt him to consider stepping down.

I don't want it to happen. If it did I'd just sigh at what would most likely be right wing on right wing thug violence.

Someone asked earlier this week how I would do self care in the upcoming days.

I replied I am a live skeet court reporter news junkie. I'd be watching the news and seeing judges excoriating the administration.

Today was juicy, lots of good news democracy. May justice forever prevail.

How many folks upgraded to Linux? Windows10 end of support tomorrow. Usually when that happens a bunch of exploits go public within a few days so the community can try to start fixing things Microsoft refused to.

So far I am liking my Linux install. Everything works with minimal fuss

I see a lot of boiling the frog metaphors and talk of being ready to boil over. I think those analogies understate the severity.

A boil over on a stove is a hassle maybe some cleanup.

An alcohol flash in a pan is dangerous but usually not enough fuel to really cause problems.

This is gonna make Trump's ears burn.

If he doesn't die of a stroke he's gonna make Vance miserable for a while if not try to turn the public on him entirely.

trump is miserable enough person he would live to spite vance at this point.
I suspect a lot of the ceremony around Kirk is an attempt to leverage Christian nationalist symbology in order to convey the messianic fervor of MAGA from Trump to Vance.

Civilization (western and otherwise) is democracy and government by the consent of the people.

Western *history* is monarchs and autocrats, and toppling them to be replaced with democracy.
Stephen Miller at Charlie Kirk’s “memorial” is scary as all hell:

“You have no idea the dragon you've awakened to save civilization. You have nothing. We will defend virtue. We are on the side of goodness, of God.”

I wonder if all this Kirk stuff is an effort to have things in place so when Time catcher up to trump there won't be room for public humiliation at his legacy.

If they can stifle you for kirk now imagine what they'll do if you don't shed an adequate amount of tears for trump?

Out of context from a notebook I jotted this at some point from something I read.

"Legitimate authority is revokable."

I wish I'd written a source for that so I could refresh my context.

I asked a friend to borrow a drill. She said yeah and also I have a worn out thrift store drill but it doesn't work well too.

Of course I want to try and give it a good clean and restore.

Funnily enough the drill has 1 bearing, and the bearings in my spare parts bin consist of twenty bearings.

Who cares what Putin the warmonger says of Trump the Russian puppet says. Let's hear from the president of the nation that was invaded and then not invited to the peace summit dicing up their sovereign lands.
Statement below from Zelensky earlier today. #StandWithUkraine Putin, et al, is still stuck in the past, thinking Ukraine still belongs to Russia. Ukraine became independent nation in 1991.
