Too soon to know either way but whereas Republicans in the 2010’s just wanted crazy candidates, it’s possible Dem voters are just “Please stop sending us 78-year old establishment candidates, give us literally anyone else.”

So preposterously unconstitutional, but also: active duty military payroll is more than $3b **per week.** This is a pittance of that. It has nothing to do with helping out the troops- they want to establish the precedent that Trump can bypass Congress and fund the government with anonymous bribes.
New: The Pentagon confirms to CNN it will funnel $130M from an anonymous Trump “friend” toward military pay.

Asked about the donor’s identity and any foreign or domestic entanglements, the WH referred questions to DoD. DoD then referred questions back to the WH

I don’t think the economy would be thriving at this point if Kamala had won, but the composition of the economy would be better than what we have (no tariffs and lower interest rates, less grifting and asset pumping).

I feel like we should be prepared for a Liberation Day-type max Dem pain announcement, and the nature of the backlash will dictate how much he’ll walk it back.
trump is a madman, so his negotiating tactic is less likely to be, “I’ll give the dems something and we’ll meet in the middle.” it’s more, “I’m going to make things so bad (fire federal workers, withhold funding to blue states…) that it will cause the dems to break”

The Lennar call made clear today that despite what equity investors might be pricing, the companies actually doing residential construction are cutting back.
Since 2011, (excluding recession yrs) construction jobs thru Aug increased on avg 150,000 over the 8mo.

For 2025, jobs thru Jul increased only 6,000, the slowest jobs growth (ex recessions) in 50 yrs.

The outlook for 2025 has construction jobs falling 40,000.

Jobs expected to fall more in 2026.

Last year the consumer weakness was mostly the lower/working class — dollar stores etc — this year it’s more middle class. Restaurants, main cabin tickets on airlines, the Luxor/Excalibur consumer in Las Vegas, entry level homebuilder customers.

I don't think the stock market is the economy in that it doesn't accurately convey what's going on with the labor market, consumers, etc, particularly with how AI centric it's become, but I do think we're at the point where stock market movement is seen as validating/threatening this admin.

My old-fashioned view is as long as continuing jobless claims are rising faster than the growth in the labor force then the economy and labor market are cooling, and the S&P 500 increasing 50% from here wouldn’t change that view.

The White House ordered heavily armed military soldiers to arrive outside a press conference by a dissident governor and just stand there.

Wearing masks to conceal their identities.

What is being done to the country I treasure, and the freedom my ancestors fought for, sickens me beyond words.
Armed Trump administration agents wearing masks just showed up outside of Gavin Newsom’s press conference.

This is what rising fascism looks like.
