Given Trump’s assertions of executive power, the autocratic nature of his 2nd term, & the stacking of his administration with hardline loyalists, many of the outlandish schemes he considered to stay in power in 2020—such as using the military to seize voting machines—don’t seem as far-fetched today.

Trump did not strengthen the arts or the Kennedy Center. He repeatedly sought to eliminate federal arts funding, politicized the Kennedy Center Honors, and fostered an environment that chilled artistic expression. Claims that he “saved” or rebuilt the Kennedy Center are demonstrably false.
