The Shines and Temples of Nikko, a perfect blend of natural and cultural heritage. What a lovely UNESCO site.

Said goodbye to 2024 with forest bathing. Said hello to 2025 with a snowy hike. Sometimes I'm sad Metro Vancouver doesn't see mods snow, and other times it's quite nice to have snow-free low elevation hikes and snowy adventures in the mountains. Happy New Year!

Happy Winter Solstice from the land of polar nights and the midnight sun (Alaska). Rest easy knowing the light is returning little by little, day by day.

Always been team real tree, but this year I'm team "keep a potted tree alive year after year." From a downtown apartment to a bigger home I didn't see the need for a new tree. This is the 2nd year I've had this tree let's see how long it lasts! Ornaments are wood from our time living in Germany.

I visited 5 UNESCO sites in Japan. I've been to 50ish globally & thought Japan's were well-managed. However, tourism threatens 60% of UNESCO's natural sites w/ many cultural sites listed "at risk" from tourism. Responsible travel is a must. Have you been to a UNESCO site? Was your experience + or -?

Fungi Friday! Is that a thing? It is now. Which one of these from Olympic NP is your favorite? I can't decide between the clear jelly-like ones or the brown tentacles growing upright (those are my very scientific descriptions 😂). Is it mushroom season where you are? Share photos of your finds!

A little forest therapy from the old-growth forest in Olympic National Park. Have you hugged a tree today?

The Epiphytes, or the collection of ferns, mosses, and lichens growing on trees here in Olympic, are breathtaking—truly mindboggling.
