Birmingham (UK), culture, art, theatre, architecture, built environment, media, tech, Android, Civ6/7, Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension, coffee, food, beer, promoting local independent businesses, LCFC, WCCC/Bears, SF49ers, GenX, he/him
Also, describing Broad Street as a 'cultural hub' is laughable. I mean technically it has a theatre and a concert hall, but it's dominated by terrible bars selling cheap alcohol to the dregs of the city.

Anyone going to The Pixies tonight at O2 Academy in Birmingham, have a great time. This was them at the same venue in December 2016

We have lost Jane Godley. But I'm sure we collectively as a nation can summon up the correct response to the Orange Vulgarian's trip to the UK.

Good to hear some regional art galleries being highlighted on the radio. One of my local favourites, Rossetti's The Blue Bower, won't be on display for a while as The Barber Institute has just closed for renovation. But @derbymuseums.bsky.social Wright's

A tale of two cities;
#Birmingham and West Midlands bus fares have just risen to £2.90 for a single fare (increased from the old government cap of £2 (@nxwestmidlands)
#Manchester and Greater Manchester's new @beenetworkgm.bsky.social maintains the £2 cap for their Hopper.

Domestically only one politician stands out, perhaps the only one with any integrity. Brummie Zarah Sultana MP had the whip removed after voting to scrap the two-child benefit cap, the single most consequential thing that would ease child poverty. But apparently that is incompatible with Labour?

For a brief moment the governor of Minnesota was thrust into the spotlight and America discovered its unlikely midwestern dad. My highlight was watching him stream Crazy Taxi with AOC. Hopefully Tim Walz can now fade back into the background, just to be the answer to a future trivia night question.

Two performers had a massive impact on the year. Charlie xcx defined the whole summer and led to an explosion of chartreuse. And the cultural juggernaut that was the Eras tour broke records and had a huge economic impact in every city visited. 2024 was the year of brat and Swiftonomics.

The Gift Fair at Compton Verney scheduled for today (Saturday 7th December) is another casualty of Storm Darragh's strong winds. Keep an eye on their Instagram page for updates on Sunday's event; www.instagram.com/compton_vern...

Not everything is effected by the forecast storm though. #Stirchley community market tomorrow (Saturday) is mostly indoors so it's going ahead as planned. Head along to support this great local market.

Another Birmingham market effected by Storm Darragh this weekend, the Kings Heath Artisan Market scheduled for Sunday (the 8th) has been postponed until the 22nd December.

You can still #BuyBrummie though, support local makers like Izzy Kennedy (izzykennedystudio) or Sparklymouse through Etsy.com
