If you're need of some positivity in your day, watch this! So heart-warming. Teaching children with movement difficulties to ride a bike - on a low budget, with volunteers, with donated space and with much patience. 👏#cycling #OxfordBrookes #joy

So good to see St Frideswide's bike bus taking off.
A great way to start the day.

Such an excellent start to a Friday!

A third trip for me to St Frideswide.
#BikeBus as they were short a marshall.
The kids were zooming around having fun for ages beforehand too.

Three cheers for @cycloxoxford.bsky.social et al. & @holybollards.bsky.social for making sure today's went ahead!

In keeping with my wear pink bike bus theme, I am wearing a bright pink silk scarf that I bought age 14 in Florence on a family train trip to Italy.

Cars take up so much space in our cities.
What a shame that this commercial was advocating for cars and not people, despite what they say at the end.
Let's share the space on our roads fairly. @andrewgant.bsky.social @greenpartyemma.bsky.social @emilykerr36.bsky.social

WATCH THIS: The most amazing thing about this remarkable 2002 car commercial is that it didn’t seem to realize at the time, or perhaps didn’t care, how effectively it made the point that cars and car infrastructure are a HUGE waste of space in cities. Award-winning 2002 ad for Saturn car company.

You're not allowed to wander on to a building site but walking along a pavement right next to a HGV is not seen as a major safety risk.
Maybe we need to think that through. www.eta.co.uk/news/why-hea...

Where do we need more cycle parking in #Oxford? Having somewhere to securely leave your bike... whether that's an ebike, a cargo bike or just a 'standard' bike... can be the deciding factor as to whether you can cycle somewhere or not. www.cyclinguk.org/blog/problem...
The problem with cycle parking
Lack of usable cycle parking is a major barrier to more people cycling. This isn’t good enough, but it’s a problem that could be easily fixed, says Content Officer Rebecca Armstrong

Would you like to work with us? We are the voice of cycling in Oxford. We want to see more people cycling so we need better infrastructure and better policies.
We're recruiting an Infrastructure and Operations lead. Deadline for applications Monday 15 Sep

@oxfordshirecc.bsky.social have done the modelling for this, we're looking forward to seeing how the congestion charge (the traffic alleviation programme) works out in practice
cycloxoxford.bsky.social
And if you do own a car and need to drive in Oxford, guess what? fewer traffic jams.
cycloxoxford.bsky.social
If you don't own a car (that's 30% of Oxford's residents) you will benefit from faster buses, more pleasant cycling, cleaner air, quieter environment... oh, you'll benefit from all those things if you own a car too!
cycloxoxford.bsky.social
So it's official, Oxford residents who own cars will get 100 permits a year to drive past one of 6 camera sites. (Oxfordshire residents get 25) and otherwise pay £5 per day.
Cyclox welcomes this move which should reduce car journeys and make Oxford a better place to live, walk, work and cycle.

Oxford is to get a congestion charge of £5 per car per day, starting this autumn. Charges will be levied for driving past one of six camera sites. The decision, intended to accelerate bus services and encourage cycling/walking, was taken at an Oxfordshire County Council cabinet meeting this morning.

cycloxoxford.bsky.social
We're thrilled by this decision. Fewer cars on roads means buses on time, better air quality, less sound pollution, more pleasant roads for cycling, better for pedestrians... The Council has also responded to lots of suggestions via the consultation to make appropriate adjustments and exemptions.
