What is on the short list?

I went EV 3 years ago, I would never go back. I especially wouldn't get a hybrid. It's the worst of both worlds. You get all the maintenance associated with a gas car & super limited EV range. If you are going to plug in, might as well get 300 miles of range, not 30!

It is pretty cool that they added such a subtle color to the line. As a designer, I would have made it a smidge more grey, but I have been parked next to a Snow Polestar 2 & then it looks pretty different in comparison. I think it would look great in something a nudge closer to Audi's Aviator Grey

I’ve got a similar spec (long range, dual motor) and we’ve been super happy with it. Coming from multiple Audis prior we really enjoy driving the Polestar 2 EV. Great car.

I'd love to check out one of those Nio ET5 EVs! Unfortunately in the US we apparently don't believe in letting the free market decide. Instead we seem to reward companies who give up on making competitive products by protecting them from their competition. #EV

Street parked. Driving this Polestar 2 EV everyday never gets old. I always look back at it after I park 🥰... It's such a fun car to drive. Charging at home and coming out to a powered up vehicle everyday still feels like some kind of cheat code on the car experience.

Currently reading & highly recommend this book, Moonbound by Robin Sloan. A sci-fi adventure 11,000 years in the future that takes the shape of a King Arthur tale. It’s a great distraction with biohacker wizards, an AI that lives in a fungus that narrates the story, & a high tech sword that talks.

A couple of great slides on solar power from @goodgoodgoodco.bsky.social

China deploys the equivalent of a coal power plant worth of electric generation in solar panels EVERY 8 HOURS!

To be an active part of the future we need to ditch fossil fuels. Like yesterday.

I also came across this sketch from 2014 for a Mini "Truckman"... I still kind of like this 🤣
January 21, 2026 at 11:53 PM
In putting this video together I was reflecting back on the small cars we've owned, including a Mini Clubman from the early 2000s. I stumbled on this picture of me with the car the day we brought it home. How do I get back to looking like this skinny young guy with lots of hair in this photo! 🤣

They definitely should!

meanwhile me getting 325+ miles of range right now. The endless "but the thing just around the corner will change it all" replies get tiresome ... my gas powered VW Golf R only got about 20 MPG real world w/ 13 gallon capacity. That's only 260 miles of range. Bonus it was slower & broke all the time

Meanwhile Hyundai has committed to launching an “avalanche” of new EVs across its brands. BMW is following suit.

Here my Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV. Ironically it’s the first car I ever bought that was made in the USA.

This is an important concept to understand as an American heading into the back half of the 2020s. From Robert Kagan in The Atlantic via @hcrichardson.bsky.social

The energy was pretty high. It's Portland so 99.9% support. Someone in a pickup did try to roll coal but my wife just laughed at them really hard and they slinked away.

Honk & wave. Someone told me about this protest on the edge of my neighborhood in Portland. I didn't expect 150 people to be out there on a Tuesday at 2pm.

EV sales continue to climb in the UK and EU despite Tesla sales being way down. Tesla ≠ EVs. The US market ≠ EVs.

A chilly January walk over to Keeper Coffee in SE Portland today for an oat milk cappuccino and a slice of vegan zucchini bread. This zucchini bread is so much like my Great Aunt Mary Macolino’s! It takes me back! Also so happy to see them have more vegan options here!

This note from the President of The United States reads like a 6 year old who didn't get his way and is now throwing his food on the floor. A person like this should never be in a position of power.

I really think Tesla hurt US EV adoption with the NACS connector. It just made everything more confusing. VS in other regions where everything is standardized to CCS2.

US influencers who prattle on about NACS might not realize that Teslas use CCS everywhere else.

I feel like we west coasters get made fun of for eating avocado toast, but damn, it’s so good! Avo toast and a cappuccino from Fairlane Coffee in the Sellwood Neighborhood of Portland.

My charger is literally the little black cylinder by my front tire. Came with the car free & plugs into a standard wall outlet for level 1 charging, or a 240v outlet to do level 2. I had a 240v outlet wired up for $500. Takes up no room. Most other chargers are small wall mounted boxes. #ev
