It was one of those brain-stopping moments when I came across it in his book. And for obvious reasons it appealed greatly to me LOL

Pretendian criteria reminds me of band council. Does this person qualify for on-reserve housing?

If no, pretendian.

If yes it's all good, unless you don't like them which raises the the second criteria: "but do they live there?"

If no, not authentic.

If you're in Winnipeg October 16-19, your girl is doing a restorying workshop at the Algonquian Conference. There is free registration if you are unaffiliated, ie. having no org to pay your fees, and it looks interesting af.

Much later I would read Klee Benally's book No Spiritual Surrender and encountered the idea of "hostile spaces" as a counterpoint to "safe spaces." These are spaces that are safe because they are hostile to oppressive ideologies, an us that excludes the violent others who mean us harm.

I didn't want to just focus on mothers but I didn't want to ignore it either so I started thinking about caretaking and the reproductive labour that goes far beyond physical reproduction.

This conversation formed the backbone for the chapter on gender and was originally called Refusing the Patriarchy. It was a challenge to think of a topic in May, which was when we had this panel

The flotillas bring hope, but also lots because they can't get through. Do what you can. I know there's a lot, but pick one and help them. I've spoken with Marah. She's a real person.

Update. I did manage to get to three bookstores which is a great way to see a city on an overcast drizzly day. And ducked into a decent Ramen spot for lunch during the worst of it. Signed these at Iron Dog Books on E Hastings
