Wow, I learned so much reading this. For instance I had no idea that ENSO affected the region's climate (I had assumed it too distant), or that dust storms inhibit precipitation.

Lots I did not understand too, given my training. Must be tough dealing with the data gaps.

I will forever be amazed that five years after 9/11 the US enacted the animal enterprise terrorism act into law. What an insult to the memory of those lost.

I had a discussion w/an economist some years ago when his simple climate/economy model wasn't giving the results he expected. I suggested breaking out one term to allow for more nuance - but he said he couldn't because then the model would have 5 variables (instead of 4) & wouldn't run as fast. 🤷

Wow! What an episode. Count me in as one of your listeners, wondering what had happened to it. Now we know. Quite incredible that the hard drive was on the desk at that very moment. I guess it wasn’t an encrypted backup! Or perhaps the encryption was easily bypassed. A screw up in any case.
