Dan in RI
@dand-ri.bsky.social
Zen teacher/priest, physician (radiologist), poet, NY sports fan (Mets/Knicks, reformed Jets fan). Hillary was right about everything.
This is something that every Democrat should be running on—even if some Democrats are among the worst in this regard (you would have gotten rich just making the same stock trades Nancy Pelosi did, for example).

Soros is just something for the GOP to say, when they really mean Satan.

Dumb signing. Couldn’t understand it at the time and it only looked worse in retrospect.

Damn good pizza. For my money, the best you can get outside New York City. Though RI has some great pizza, too.

Lots of questions, but no answers for now. In RI I’m considered out of market, but every so often my phone will tell me I’m in the blackout area. Usually happens when I’m working at the hospital, which is part of the Yale New Haven Health system—maybe it registers as being in New Haven.

Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger. But I think the young guys that are developing in the minors—Benge, Williams, Morabito, Ewing, Clifford, Serrano will be knocking on the door soon. I don’t really expect he’ll be traded, but there are options to replace him.

TBH, I don’t care that much one way or another. They have a lot of young players who can play corner OF spots and there are FA players that are better than Nimmo. I doubt he gets traded, but it wouldn’t hurt the team and I’ve never really warmed to him all that much.

He’d look good in a Mets uniform. But I wonder if David Stearns agrees. He was all-in on Yamamoto and Sasaki, but had no interest in any other Japanese pitcher, as far as I know.

I’m cautiously optimistic about the deal. I don’t think they’ll want to replace local broadcasters with their own. And they may fold the MLB app into their own streaming platform. As for pricing—MLB isn’t cheap to begin with; I’m not sure that ESPN’s offering will be more expensive.

Dumbest contract in the Stearns era. A terrible, awful, no-good deal that never made a bit of sense. Never. Imagine if he’d put that money towards getting a quality reliever or two instead.

This kid has a lot to contribute. And thanks for the Nicole Kidman reference.

Take the A Train, Duke Ellington. Great video of the Duke himself and his orchestra.

Duke Ellington, "Take the A Train"
This is a segment from the film Reveille with Beverly from 1943; the song was composed in 1939.

You’re right. I misinterpreted the data. Still, he was tied for 4th most steals in MLB (and tied for the NL lead), had the highest success rate of anyone in the top ten, and was the only one in the top 10 with sprint speed below the 73rd percentile. He and Naylor are complete outliers.

Soto is even slower than Naylor. Those two are gamers. All the speedsters should be embarrassed, getting upstaged by them.

Oops.

I think a 5 year deal with most of the time at DH would probably work out well. Unfortunately, he seems opposed to DH.
November 17, 2025 at 8:35 PM
Baseball Savant has Soto at 17th percentile speed. The two of them give hope to the athletically challenged.
November 17, 2025 at 6:04 PM
Valid points, though it ignores Pete’s defense, which is the major obstacle to achieving the $$$ he thinks he’s worth. Ideally, he signs with the team and transitions to DH when Ryan Clifford is ready (or Vientos transitions to 1B).
