The intensity of her fans seems linked to this, imo, as if dismissing her work was tantamount to dismissing the grounds on which one's normal/white struggles could be understood as valid and interesting. It's a different version of the marriage plot and HGTV dream house:

I think the thing with swift is just as plain as it always has been: it's about whiteness, and the narcissism of elevating the specifically mundane/banal dramas of white normativity into epic struggles, which is why it overlaps with right wing grievance politics affectively if not literally.
