Just remember, you can call anything a monopoly if it’s self-contained.

This is how the EU can pretend iOS/The App Store are monopolies because they have 100% control of their own ecosystem.

They ignore the larger market of mobile OSes to fit their agenda.

Technology isn’t a solution. The end result is everything we own is a “robot” that will only do what some government agency has programmed as “approved”.

We need better roadways, education and penalties for those who ignore the rules.

I’d love to see cars in bike lanes get towed, for example.

What’s the point of a speed regulator when riders don’t wear helmets? Do we add new technology so the bike/scooter won’t move until a sensor detects you have a helmet on? Sensors that disable the bike/scooter as soon as you’re on a sidewalk? Cars that disable if you’re in a marked bike lane?
December 20, 2025 at 7:28 PM
…don’t wear helmets. Yet I’ve never seen anyone get stopped/ticketed because of it.

One day someone on a Lime scooter is going to suffer a serious head injury. And what will the knee-jerk reaction to this be? They’ll ban e-scooters when they should have enforced the helmet law instead.
December 20, 2025 at 7:28 PM
I’m against speed regulators on vehicles of any type. I think they should remove regulators on e-bikes/e-scooters and have the rider obey the speed limits instead (just like cars do).

Punish anyone who doesn’t obey the rules.

Since you’re in Vancouver you’ve obviously seen how many Lime riders…

Don’t make assumptions about me based on my profile. I’ve worked for years with ICBC and Transport Canada doing collision investigations.

I’ve used transit/bike/scooter to commute the entire 25 years I’ve lived in Vancouver. I don’t commute via car.

I’m well aware of issues between cars/bikes.

Pikes hair is awesome, especially when they make fun of it.

I’m going to keep repeating this until I will it into existence. Get Craig Federighi of Apple a guest spot on SNW where he runs into Pike in a turbolift and they admire each other’s hair.

Apple also pokes fun at Federighi’s hair.

Smith wants a pension that she can dip into for “investing” into oil & gas.

No federal funding for a pipeline? No problem. We’ll spend Albertans dollars to build one and disguise it as an investment into the future.

I’ve posted this before, but BC Hydro has several batteries. Kinbasket Lake (Mica dam) and Revelstoke Lake (Revelstoke dam).

When solar/wind is producing they can reduce power from the hydro dams allowing the reservoirs to fill. When renewable is low the dams make up the extra with stored water.

When you make an agreement it’s logical to expect both parties to keep up their end. If one side doesn’t they expose themselves as untrustworthy.

The solution is quite simple: If Alberta doesn’t stick to the agreement then Carney can simply say “no more pipeline as we previously AGREED to”.

…the sidewalk or break the law.

Start warning/fining people and they’ll get the hint pretty quick.

The alternative is governments going overboard and outright banning certain devices (e-bikes and e-scooters seem to be a popular target) instead of coming up with a reasonable solution.
December 19, 2025 at 3:36 AM
They simply need to enforce the rules. For example, I see countless riders in Vancouver without a helmet.

There’s no valid reason not to wear a helmet when on a bike or scooter. It’s people who don’t think the rules apply to them.

Not feeling safe doesn’t give people the right to ride on…

I think this is all premature. Let’s see if any oil companies put up the money/take the risk and put a proposal together.

Then we can have discussions for final approval. I don’t even think it will get this far.

Arguing about approval for a non-existent project seems like a waste of time to me.
December 18, 2025 at 8:40 PM
Telling Albertans to stay off the roads simply means truck bros are going to go out anyway. Just because you told them what to do.
December 18, 2025 at 3:35 AM
The solution is simple and obvious.

- Closed loop cooling that doesn’t use water.

- Renewable electricity done on-site (wind/solar) with batteries to even out the supply.

Simply make these conditional upon getting approval for a data centre.

Nikon. Been shooting with them since the early 80’s. Went from Pentax K1000 to Olympus OM-2n to a Nikon F3HP.

The brochure with the pic of the F3HP, motor drive and 50mm f1.4 was camera porn back then.

Currently have a Z9 and several Z lenses. Very happy with both.

Fantastic.

I had to read up on this because I don’t know how it could run indefinitely.

Then I see they have a unique use case where loaded trains go downhill while empty trains go uphill. The energy recovered downhill is enough to bring empty cars back uphill.

Cool idea, but pretty niche.
