Absolutely love these little bore waves that keep appearing on an otherwise totally calm estuary. Is there anyone more marine adept than I who can explain the physics?

🚨 AURORA 🚨

She is still absolutely bouncing away up there! If you have clear skies get away from lights and look up.

Sadly, torrential downpours with me so not a chance!

Already sightings in York, Grimsby, Essex, Suffolk, Northumberland and Ayrshire!

Only in Wales could I be simultaneously be getting rained on and see the aurora. God I love this country.

🚨 AURORA UPDATE 🚨

If you can get to clear skies by 2200 ish, the Aurora looks like she’s going to erupt! All signs point to a high chance of powerful aurora sometime after 2200!

Get yourselves out there and take care Aurora seekers 🌌

🚨 AURORA ACTIVE 🚨

Clear skies? Get out and look north! Aurora is very active and is starting to be seen across the UK where weather allows.

Good luck!

It’s the third star down on the ‘sword’ hanging from Orion’s Belt. That nebula is essentially, a star nursery, where new stars are ‘born’
January 17, 2026 at 8:19 PM
Such a gorgeously clear and still night out there tonight!

Even my phone could pick up the Orion Nebula - the big smudge you can see in the second photo!

I love this fungus! Another good one for UV is the Sulphur Tuft.

I don’t think the Cornish Flag has the Welsh dragon on it…

Eryri’s slate landscapes gained UNESCO status is 2021. Not 2001.
January 14, 2026 at 9:26 PM
This is clearly not Blaenavon, if you’ve ever set foot anywhere near Blaenavon, or in fact South Wales, you would immediately realise those mountains simply do not exist in that area.

It is in fact, Eryri. Just 150 miles away.

That’s some map!

Hope everyone is staying safe this evening, from some dreadful weather. Having experienced 90mph+ winds with Darragh, I know it’s actually very scary to go through.

Batten down the hatches!

I know the dark mornings are hard, but lean into them. Humans are hardwired to respond to natural light and, importantly, natural darkness. It’s crucial for our core working systems like hormonal and nervous, to get exposure to both. So, enjoy the late sunsets whilst you still can!

A wild wintery morning, a mix of snow, hail and freezing rain on Ynys Môn!

White beaches have a new meaning today

For #UKsnow this is LL64

The International Space Station will make two passes tomorrow morning, one at 0618 then again at 0752

Sprinkle a little magic on your Christmas morning and pretend it’s Santa, leaving our skies to deliver presents to the other children of the world 🌎

Nadolig Llawen!

Do you hear ghostly hooves, cantering through the night?

Our Mari is stirring… she races to sunset on Alban Arthur, the Winter Solstice tomorrow ❤️

So lucky to see this little piece of Welsh heritage bought back to life and celebrated in the here and now, even if her beginnings are a mystery

I have two dogs. One is a Corgi. One is a German Shepherd X mountain breed.

These mats get rolled up with treats and tied in a knot as a brain game to work their minds.

Can you tell which dogs gets which mat? One is delicate and methodical. The other has a more… destructive, approach.

5 days until the winter solstice…

You have reached the time of the year where sunsets will not get any earlier. In 5 days time, the longest night will take place, then each night after, light will slowly creep back to fill the nights 🌌

Our final full moon of the year, December’s ‘Cold Moon’, is also the final Super Moon of the year!

The moon will be at its closest point to us in its orbit so will appear bigger and brighter.

Please admire my friends amazing photography - she’s @kirkachu_at_night on instagram

A moonlit estuary and a silver sea, beautifully sparkly evening (if not a bit blustery!)

Just a little too early to see my favourite, Orion, but Betelgeuse is already burning bright there in the SE sky
