My transcription software today translated Lincoln Diaz-Balart as "Lincoln, the Hezbollah"

Working on a Cuba story right now, obviously

Went to Granma to see how the Cuban state media is spinning today's events and in the first four words there's already a factual error - they said the presser was in the White House when it was at Mar-A-Lago.

Safe to say the spin is coming from a fearful place.

Standing here in front of the Brickell metrorail station in Miami watching police repeatedly pull scooter drivers over seemingly just for driving scooters. A guy was stopped, turning right. I warned him: "Te van a parar." They did.

Oh look we will be spending a trillion on interest next year, and within a decade we will be spending 2 trillion on interest.

Hate to be doomsday about it, but we're basically done. Spending has increased, but more importantly we have had 4 tax cuts since 2000.

Generational austerity is coming.

Good afternoon from an uncharacteristically gloomy December day in Miami. About to walk into election watch party for Emilio González, a Republican running to be the next mayor of Miami.

Democrat Eileen Higgins running for an unset victory. First results expected around 7:15pm.

Gov. DeSantis announces proposal for "Bill of Rights for Artificial Intelligence" in Florida.

At first glance this proposal includes a whole lot of what many advocates and consumer groups say is needed. Like making sure consumers won't pay for data centers, prohibiting use in insurance, etc..

Good morning from Hialeah where Miami Dade College is holding a second meeting about giving an estimated $200 million worth of land away for free to build the Trump Presidential Library.

First vote challenged in court for not adequately alerting the public. Second time, the room is packed.

The Trump/ Milei friendship is so wild because they are actually ideologically opposite, but they have convinced themselves that they are actually the same, bc vibes.

Milei's playbook? Budget surplus. Trump's playbook? Budget deficits. Milei? Free trade. Trump? Tariffs. www.wsj.com/world/americ...

In which the Mayor of Miami admits to placing literally zero thought or effort into a speech he gave to open the new Moroccan Consulate in Miami.

He read what AI told him to say "word for word."

Honestly how disrespectful to the first country that recognized the U.S.

Worst part of socialism? The government pushing its finger on the scale, picking winners and losers etc.. and what that can mean for innovation and competition.

Worst of capitalism? The belief that democratic process (the masses) should have no role whatsoever, EVEN AS THEY MAINTAIN OWNERSHIP.

So the US is doing something similar to socialism with the Trump acquiring massive shares of important companies...

But per the fine print it seems like the worst aspects of both socialism and capitalism are rolled up into a single new industrial policy.

I'm visiting Cork, Ireland. Every single Saturday there's a march against the intentional starvation of Gaza. They see it very clearly and with no qualms bc as an Irish friend told me, "We were also starved and millions of us died, not too long ago." More of the world should be like Ireland.

Looking through the Miami-Dade budget proposal:

County wants to slash staff, merge departments etc.. They're going to remove lifeguards and "transition to a 'Swim at Your Own Risk' model" at public pools.

In the meantime, the proposed budget for sheriff is up $184 million compared to last year.
