I lived in 6 states (UT, AZ, OH, RI, MA, FL) before moving to Chicago and I've never felt safer or more connected to my neighbors than I do here

I can’t begin to tell you how damaging “the world isn’t fair, get used to it” line has been to every child’s psyche growing up and therefore has led to a world that stays unfair. If we teach children to get used to an unfair world, we are destroying the possibility of a better world.

Today at the dog park I sat and listened while an old man described the boat he’s restoring, with the goal of taking it through all of the great lakes. People are cool man.

Pritzker: "The reality is that Chicago isn't even in the top 25 cities in terms of violent crime rates. He's attacking Chicago because he doesn't like that people in Chicago don't vote for Donald Trump, they don't support Trump. He doesn't like the governor -- me -- because I don't support Trump."

“It is unfair [building illegal settlements in WB] because the [occupied] West Bank has nothing to do with Hamas…This becomes a political project and his [Netanyahu's] aim is not to dismantle Hamas but to deny Palestinians the right to live in peace.” - Macron in an interview with Israeli Ch. 12.

52 minutes from a pile of Chicago contenders, and I’m in there too.

I somehow released 4 collaborations in 2024. One of them was “The Nighttime Ensemble,” which came out on the great + now retired Longform Editions. I’ve just gotten around to putting the piece on BC. It is our ode to a YouTube comment on Boren and Der Club of Gore’s iconic Midnight Radio

A college English class where they’re told to use AI to complete assignments. Why bother teaching at all? Especially the languages/literature. I’m sorry but I will judge any professor who does this, especially in fields like English and history

My daughter has a college English class right now where they’re told to use AI to complete assignments. SHE’S HORRIFIED AND DISGUSTED. The tech bros want you to voluntarily relinquish your ability to think and give up all creativity to computers. So people are dumb and dependent on their products

This is the biggest attack on free speech since the McCarthy era but it also has significantly less popular consensus behind it than the second Red Scare. It's being done on behalf of a minority faction led by the most unpopular president in modern history. Organizing against this can win.

Charlie Kirk famously asked college audiences to “change his mind”, but his mind never got changed.

An expert on the language strategies used to advance white supremacy says that is definitely not the “right way”, and suggests a different approach.
After Charlie Kirk’s murder, the US might seem hopelessly divided – is there any way forward?
Trying to change someone’s mind can seem futile. But there are approaches to political discourse that still matter, even if they don’t instantly win someone over.
