2/2 and then when I led the Party's Economic Secretariat from 89 to 92 and he helped out with advice to John Smith. A genius but also a great help to mere mortals like me.

1/2. Meghnad was an amazing man. I have great memories of his unique style of chairing Islington South Labour party; of working with him in the rather strange Labour Economic Strategies Group (EcStra) in the mid 80s;

The govt's Green Book Review this week won praise from England’s metro mayors, long frustrated that investment favours London and the South East.

But will a few tweaks to Treasury rules really move the dial? Chief Economist @danrcorry.bsky.social takes a look >>

Can the Chancellor lay the groundwork for growth this week, so that we get - in Gordon Brown's phrase - "prudence with a purpose"?

agree Hetan. Also metrics that allow you to make decisions are fairly straightforward in private sector (ie profits!) but both unclear what they should be and often hard to calculate in the non profit worlds. So many private sector people feel 'lost' when first joining charity boards.

Not much new about the British Council finances in this piece. But there is a reminder of how much people from the private sector don’t realise it is harder to run a social purpose organisation - there are still commercial imperatives but a lot more besides www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk-...
After ten years as CEO of Oliver Wyman, McDonald had a choice: "To find an even bigger corporate job or do something completely different." He chose the latter, but the role he has is "ten times harder than I imagined".
