I write books (I AM NOT A WOLF), games (Magic: The Gathering, Who's A Good Boy), and jokes (The Onion, my many beautiful posts)
Got to speak with city council member Soren Stevenson as well as Mayor Frey today, I’ve turned in to start transcribing interviews and pulling everything together, barring any massive changes to the situation this is probably the end of my coverage on here for now! Minneapolis is a beautiful city.

I returned to the memorial just before 8 to find that the barricades had been cleared by the city around 4am. Traffic on Portland has resumed and there’s a consistent police presence in the area

Folks continue taking care of each other out here, even as the rain gets harder and colder. There’s a big march up on Lake and Chicago that may or may not head into the area, I’ve heard folks claim both. There’s a functional yurt, more food than the organizers know what to do with, and even music

The sun’s down and rain has started to fall, folks on Portland are taking the necessary precautions to keep the place hospitable to the vigil which is now set to be ongoing

Portland is completely blocked off between 34th and 35th and has been since the early morning, residents of the area and activists are monitoring car traffic in and out to give the community room to grieve and process the events of yesterday

Aftermath of a press conference held by Isaiah MN, an interfaith group whose demands included the arrest of the ICE agent who murdered Renee Good as well as the complete removal of ICE and CBP from Minneapolis

Feeling very attacked as someone who first played the card on the left as a bright eyed teenager but yeah Doran I get it, I cost a little more to cast these days too

As the Difficult Year project begins, I'm thinking about how our phones serve as an escape hatch from even minor moments of discomfort and how having instant access to that escape harms our ability to live in the real world

I'm mostly bummed that this was the roll I shot at box speed because the fog was really thick that night and I would've loved to have it all feel a hair less exposed. But the whole point of trying to do more of this is to get better so I'm trying not to get too annoyed with it.

Got back my first rolls of the year. Slightly disappointing results, unfortunately. Been trying to get better at night/low light shots. Used Cinestill 400 &800. I have a 3rd roll in progress where I pulled the 800 to expose at 500 and I'm wondering if it helped me get better focus and exposure

you guys are such haters it literally looks fine

My little project for the year is making my life harder on purpose. I talk about it a little bit here, but the long and short of it is that I think excessive convenience has eroded the quality of everyday life at great cost to our sense of self. I've been referring to it as The Smooth World

BUT, I catch myself using the fact that I'm just a hobbyist to not learn more about a thing I've spent a ton of time doing. So this year, the goal is to really hone in on the mechanics of both the photos themselves and post-processing rather than coasting on having a good eye. We'll see how it goes!

I've been goofing around with film cameras for a decade with the express purpose of not selling my photos or otherwise submitting them for external judgement beyond posting them online. It's nice to have an outlet that isn't tied to paying my rent like writing is.

One of my biggest goals for 2026 is to see a meaningful improvement in my photography. Here are what I think are my ten best of 2025.

I did plenty of other stuff I'm proud of. We made and funded our game, I finished my second book, worked on two new Magic sets, all while helping a burgeoning little consciousness experience the world for the first time. I just wish I felt better about the world she's coming into.

Then we left LA, moved back to Chicago and made a new home for ourselves only to have ICE immediately show up and start harassing our neighbors. I got to see how much humanity existed in my new community under the least desirable circumstances possible.

Then I became a dad. I watched my daughter's birth and felt my world become impossibly small in the months that followed as we put our heads down and fought through those first few months where you can't go more than a minute or two without being needed

Tough to eulogize a year with so much pain and beauty mixed up in it. Watched the city I lived in burn, dropping a brown haze on the year that never really lifted. I watched the military show up to help with relief then watched them come back a few months later to brutalize protestors.

Not gonna give Marty number one until recency bias wears off but it might be there. Top ten for 2025 is shaping up pretty nicely
