These people are mobilizing so effectively to take care of each other and so many right wingers are just rubbing their hands together and hoping they get more footage of riot cops and burned buildings. Renee Good deserves justice and these people deserve to grieve in peace.

Back at the memorial, Deputy Chief of Minneapolis FD Colm Black just made a statement to mourners asking that they not place any furniture in the street or start any fires. In exchange, the crowd is being allowed to stand in one of the lanes of the street as the crowd grows too big for the sidewalk

Spoke to some folks who live in the neighborhood about the removal of the Portland barricades last night and the impression I'm getting is that the scale of the protesting had become disruptive to both their grieving process and their lives (there are a number of children and babies on the block)

I’m at Minneapolis City Hall where Mayor Jacob Frey just finished a press conference criticizing the unwillingness of the FBI’s to cooperate with the city in the investigation.

The crowd at the memorial is predictably much smaller (it’s early, cold, and the cops are all over the street) but lots of protest groups from other states have arrived. A second set of barricades appears extremely unlikely but ongoing protest seems inevitable

I returned to the memorial just before 8 to find that the barricades had been cleared by the city around 4am. Traffic on Portland has resumed and there’s a consistent police presence in the area

Headed out from the memorial area around 10, things seemed to be winding down and while folks said they'd be trading shifts all throughout the night, I was soaked to the bone and had spent most of the prior night driving to get to town so I"m calling it a night. I'll be back tomorrow between 7 and 8

Also, since the sun’s gone down, the content creators have arrived. There are a handful of right wing guys who start saying incendiary pro-ICE stuff, provoke an argument and then suddenly lo and behold the other guy has started recording a video the moment someone gets pressed. Ignore if you can.

Folks continue taking care of each other out here, even as the rain gets harder and colder. There’s a big march up on Lake and Chicago that may or may not head into the area, I’ve heard folks claim both. There’s a functional yurt, more food than the organizers know what to do with, and even music

The sun’s down and rain has started to fall, folks on Portland are taking the necessary precautions to keep the place hospitable to the vigil which is now set to be ongoing

Portland is completely blocked off between 34th and 35th and has been since the early morning, residents of the area and activists are monitoring car traffic in and out to give the community room to grieve and process the events of yesterday
