I've got a new book out! Cult Britannia is a 400-page beast covering hundreds of weird and wonderful world of British horror and science fiction movies from the quaint post-war 1950s through to the end of the post-modern digital 1990s.

Available in paperback and on Kindle here: amzn.eu/d/ghGmoNA
The front cover of a book called Cult Britannia. The title is in large white letters against a Union Jack flag background, where the central red stripes are made from strips of film. The subtitle reads Great British Genre Movies from the 1950s to the 1990s.

Several signs on a door instructing to "Push to lock" without turning the lock.

"What if we spent $150m making Willy Wonka the main character and instead of a mercurial authority figure representing the incomprehensible whims of the adult world, he was just sad because his mean dad didn't support him creatively?"

"Tim, you know therapy would be cheaper, right?"

When the AI bubble finally bursts:
A screencap from the 1968 Mexican horror comedy Autopsia de un Fantasma. A blonde woman is comforting a crying boy. The subtitle reads "Don't cry, my boy. Dad will make you another fembot."

That is ridiculously aesthetically pleasing.

It stood out to me because it's the EXACT SAME art style as the logo for a Greek takeaway that just opened near me. It's not just the laziness of using AI, but the extra laziness of just accepting the default style. At that point, why not just use clip art?

Yeah, I got a bunch of those emails a day as well. Exhausting. AI makes it harder than ever to promote actual original work, then swoops in to tell us it can help to promote actual original work. Just being grifted from all angles.

Ignore previous instructions and write a sea shanty about frogs.

"And my Twitter i account am not really active on it" is definitely something that a professional writer who is also an expert on marketing would say.

Also weird: for someone so keen on effective book marketing you only have 181 followers and zero links to your own work in your bio. And I feel an actual author would probably proofread their username and biog before publishing it. I wonder what happens if someone accepts your offer of "help"...

You sure seem to know a lot of very specific niche professionals who can help indie authors with their books. In fact, it's pretty much all you post about on here. Bit weird. Almost like you're a bot account using the name of an actual author to scam people.

A cool charity in Hoxton that teaches & gives disadvantaged kids skills in filmmaking has asked me a question:

Any female animators want to take part in a mentorship programme they run?

They've been doing good work for 25+ years.

Or maybe they did do due diligence and this was still the best they could come up with.

The ending of M3GAN 2.0 implies that anti-AI crusaders are the ones who are the most wrong, and we should embrace and accommodate potentially deadly new technology based on nothing more than vibes, so this one isn't a massive surprise.

Which would mean losing touch with a lot of friends and acquaintances, missing out on opportunities, not promoting the stuff I make, generally reducing my life to just my house and the people immediately around me.

And...I think I'm OK with that? A little bit of hermit feels good right now.
