btw what EMTALA requires is that you’re given a medical screening and your condition is stabilized instead of an ER refusing to see you or transferring you bc of what they think it would cost them treat you.
booksandbows.bsky.social
the thing about EMTALA is there are no conservatives who actually understand EMTALA and they just read it as “we can’t let undesirables die in the street without consequences” and want to destroy it

Mike Johnson’s position is young pregnant American women shouldn’t have to wait before being turned away to die in the parking lot from an ectopic pregnancy the hospital is afraid to treat

Mike Johnson: "If you're a young, pregnant American citizen women who shows up in an ER and you get treated and they pay the hospital less for treating you than some illegal rabble rouser who came in from some South American country to do us harm, that is wrong."

They (we?) taught law students that judges are political actors and that's why now people don't believe in the rule of law. OBVIOUSLY.
darapurvis.bsky.social
Saw another law prof on a different social media site blaming the current crisis in the rule of law on legal realists, and anyway I'm going to become the Joker.

Toad: I just listened to Supreme Court oral arguments

Toad was sitting on his front porch. Frog came along and said, “What is the matter Toad? You are looking sad.”

I cannot bring myself to give much attention to SCOTUS. They're going to say that prohibiting "counselors" from torturing LGBTQ kids with "conversion therapy" violates the Constitution, because the SCOTUS majority doesn't interpret law, they enact white Christian nationalist policy preferences.

To be clear, ADF cooked up a case with fake facts, distorted medical research and fabricated harms to be able to gain the constitutional right to torture LGBTQ children.

That's what they want to do, to torture LGBTQ youth.

The Supreme Court’s First Blockbuster Case This Term Looks Pretty Fake
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in Chiles v. Salazar, a case that seeks to undo a major triumph of the LGBTQ+ movement.

A top Trump official accusing federal district court judges, "as a class," of engaging in insurrection is a profoundly dangerous development.

Stephen Miller: "It's simply a factually accurate statement that when a judge assumes for him- or herself the powers that have been relegated or delegated by the Constitution to the president, that that is a form of illegal insurrection." ...

Q: You called the judge's ruling 'legal insurrection.' Are you recommending the president take action against judges who rule against him?

STEPHEN MILLER: No. It's simply a factually accurate statement

But I thought those of us pointing out things that Charlie Kirk said with his real mouth are the ones inviting violence
obdurodon.bsky.social
Let's review the timeline.

(1) Goodstein ruled against Trump's illegal demand for voter info.

(2) Harmeet Dhillon at DoJ said "nothing will stop us" about the case.

(3) Stephen Miller called judges insurrectionists.

(4) A day later, Goodstein's house gets bombed.

This is stochastic terrorism.

Utterly irresponsible politicization of the US military.

The sailors cheering this on-- in violation of Navy and DOD regulations-- are mostly enlisted. Their flag officers, faced with this at Quantico, knew better.

The man inciting them to do this is their Commander-in-Chief.

US farmers are saying they "just need temporary help, until things get better."

Here's the thing. US farm exports- which are mostly soy- CANNOT get better.

Other countries expanded their soy industries to fill China's demand.

We've walled ourselves out of the global market, folks. This is it.

Every time the subject of Jimmy Fallon’s spinelessness comes up, I think of this passage from Tina Fey’s Bossypants
66 Amy Poehler was new to SNL and we were all crowded into the seventeenth-floor writers' room, waiting for the Wednesday night read-through to start.
[...] Amy was in the middle of some such nonsense with Seth Meyers across the table, and she did something vulgar as a joke. I can't remember what it was exactly, except it was dirty and loud and
"unladylike"
Jimmy Fallon [...] turned to her and in a faux-squeamish voice said, "Stop that!
It's not cute! I don't like it." Amy dropped what she was doing, went black in the eyes for a second, and wheeled around on him. "I don't fucking care if you like it." Jimmy was visibly startled. Amy went right back to enjoying her ridiculous bit.
With that exchange, a cosmic shift took place. Amy made it clear that she wasn't there to be cute. She wasn't there to play wives and girlfriends in the boys' scenes.
She was there to do what she wanted to do and she did not fucking care if you like it.

Tina Fey, Bossypants
