Congrats to Mary Brunkow from @isbscience.org on winning the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine! Brunkow was honored with collaborators Ramsdell and Sakaguchi for their groundbreaking work on immune system regulation.

A proud moment for science and Seattle!

New research in #AusMammalogy compared the whiskers of wombats, finding that southern hairy-nosed wombats have longer, thicker whiskers.

Without a rhinarium, the study's authors suggest they may depend more on whiskers to navigate & interact.

Interesting this is occurring in the UK. Think it is likely true here too? #australia #education #fieldwork #mammal @ausmammals.bsky.social @ecolsocaus.bsky.social

🚧🐾 Testing wombat gates along the M12! 🐾🚧
Designed by WPSA, these gates aim to give #wombats and other wildlife freedom of movement through the #landscape — complementing #underpasses and #overpasses 🌿.
But we need to be extra vigilant for wildlife when driving. 🚗🐾

I don’t know who needs to hear this

But “citizen science” does not mean random untrained people guessing what to do and reinventing the wheel poorly

It means trained volunteers under the supervision of a credentialed professional who designs the study and analyzes the data.

#WomSAT is a platform where members of the #community can #engage in #CitizenScience and #WombatConservation. Yes, YOU can help protect #wombats by #reporting wombat #sightings, wombat #burrow locations, wombat #treatment for #mange. Every report counts!
