He always had one question weighing in his mind. He was aware of its existence, yet couldn't know what that question would entail. If he seeks for an answer, it would do him well if he already knew the right question to ask.

If only he stayed in the bliss of ignorance, he wouldn't have this thought constantly gnawing his head– like the perpetual feeling of trying to remember a word at the tip of his tongue. No matter how much he tried to figure out the right question to ask, most of the time there's always something that stopped his train of thoughts.

Most of the time, that is.

The one time he realized it– all the strange occurrences happening to him that he treated nonchalantly, when the whispers in his mind tried to convince him everything was normal. Of course it's normal to feel tired after a proper 8 hour sleep. The red water in his bath was just the evening lighting playing tricks on his eyes. The person collapsing in front of him was just exhausted, there was definitely no bullet wound of him.

He could've pretended to not be aware of the messed up thoughts he had. Tried to stay ignorant. But unfortunately, it was his nature to pursue the truth, and finally he had found the right words for his question.

"What is happening to me?"

He heard a gentle shush in his mind, and the feeling of someone tapping on his forehead. He could feel his mind slowly faded to a gentle sleep, he realized he will soon forget this exact train of thoughts, as this feeling was all too familiar, for it had happened too many times beforehand.

And then he had another question.

"Why? What would happen if I find the answer?"
