I am genuinely at a loss for a precedent here. Very, very few states in history ever enjoyed the success of the USA even on a regional level and I just can’t think of any of them dynamiting it all for absolutely no gain

If you, as a company, know or should have known that users would request abuse material, and do not take industry-reasonable steps to mitigate and prevent the generation of the same, your senior executives should have liability for that production

This is the whole thing, right? There are a ton of genuinely very socially positive uses of this technology. There are also a ton of genuinely very socially negative uses of this technology. And those are *both* true at the same time. Folks who focus on just one but not the other run into troubles

I think we could do quite a lot to improve the situation, some of the tools are very poorly designed and need to be reformed (hello, supreme court, and impeachment generally needs some work)

but there's no foolproof system that will stop lockstep "we're simply not following this rule"
