It would be really quite nice to have a decisive government in Germany right now. If that’s not too much to ask. A government that reaches out to our partners in Poland, France and indeed the UK. That stops with the navel-gazing and the self-righteousness. That steps up for Europe.

We need to bury one of our favorite old fallacies. Doing more for Europe is not anti-American. It can even be an act of Atlanticism. We need to carry our part of the burden. By global standards, Europe is rich, and Europe is free. It is for us to ensure that it stays that way.
