Now is the perfect time for photographing the woodland floor. One of my favourite leaves are those of the Holly. They are very variable in colour raging from almost black, though browns, gold and turquoise. Next time you pass the evergreen Holly have a look at the fallen leaves underneath. #macro

The River Tees at High Force this morning after last nights heavy rain. There is some floodwater coming over the middle of High Force, but it had dropped considerably by the time I got there.

This morning started off with thick fog which looked like it would thin and clear by late morning. This was just downstream of Barnard Castle, Teesdale, County Durham, UK as it began to burn off.

This time last year I watched Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) and the Milky Way arch overhead while listening to the waves break on the beach.

We have some ideal conditions for fungi at the moment in the UK. Not sure of the ID, but possibly one of the Galerina species.

Lots of fungi about at the moment. This small black and white fungus looks like the wick of a snuffed out candle, hence the name, Candle Snuff Fungus.

The low river levels due to the dry summer has allowed me to get a bit of a different view of the Castle here without getting my wet feet. Location Barnard Castle, Teesdale County Durham, England, UK.

I love to sit and listen to the calls of Grouse, which seem to start around dawn. Photography wise there doesn't seem to be great numbers on the north Pennines moors this year.

A lot of the becks in Teesdale and the wider Pennines are beautifully clear at the moment as there is no peat sediment being washed into them due to the lack of rain. #Teesdale #LandscapePhotography #CountyDurham #NorthPennines

Wood ants both scavenge and take down wasps and other invertebrates to feed young. I saw a wasp land on an ants nest and they killed it in seconds. Some pinned it down while others started to dissect it. Can't share much of the vid as its for a documentary, they are incredible predators up close.

I found this old millstone in a Hamsterley forest recently. It looks as though it was near to completion before the crack was discovered. These were created with hand tools and given how much work went into it, it must have been devastating to have done all that work for nothing. #Teesdale
