First day of (teaching) in Year 14 at Purdue! One step closer to emeritus!

Good start to the day, I bench pressed more than Tom Brady can (his best was 245, I did 250 today)! Not sure if it will help my teaching, but at least I can do something athletically that the GOAT has not done.

Some of it it might be at AAU universities. My university recently made a decision that letters should only come from other AAU universities. That narrows the scope of who can write quite considerably. It’s quite absurd given that some of the most amazing scholars in many fields are not at AAUs.

This lets them build their own unique programs of research that is connected to, but different than mine. 3/3

Right now, I have students who are all generally interested in math, but extend off to their own unique areas of (1) Latine cultural identity and math, (2) math difficulties/disabilities, (3) gender differences in math, and (4) informal (non-home) environments and math learning. 2/3

I’ve been saying let’s just meet because it lets me learn more about their real research interests. I don’t want a student to just tell me they’re interested in what I do, I want students who connect with my work but build their own unique areas. 1/3
