New piece from @alankohler.bsky.social about the hopelessness of net zero by 2050. Discuss here in a civilised space.

As Trump abandons climate action, we must accept net zero won't happen
While markets and media were chasing Donald Trump’s tariff fiasco last week, something far more important was unfolding in East Palestine, Ohio.

Why isn't this news?
January 2025 was quite unexpectedly the warmest January on record at 1.75C above preindustrial, beating the prior record set in 2024.

This is despite the presence of La Niña conditions in the tropical Pacific, with the El Niño event of 2023/2024 long faded. www.theclimatebrink....

This was such a great discussion and so much better than anything that passes for an 'energy debate' in Australia at the moment.

“It's amazing how pollution has dropped in #Paris in 15 years. @annehidalgo.bsky.social has filled the city with bike-lanes & not only has she reduced pollution by 40% but she’s also been re-elected.”

Trading car space for green space, bike space, kid space…trading pollution for people. Good trade.
Es alucinante cómo ha bajado la contaminación en París en 15 años. Anne Hidalgo lo ha llenado todo de carriles bici y no sólo ha reducido la contaminación en un 40%, sino que ha sido reelegida.

My personal reminder to do this...
I want to make a personal request to those of you who use a bike for transportation purposes to start taking more photos and posting them.

You can do so much by showing even the most mundane errands with a bike to educate and inspire others. They're often more effective than words. 📸

Something incredible is happening in Paris...

Without the spread of conspiracy theories common outside of France, Paris is also putting into practice the home-grown concept of the “15-minute city,” creating urban areas where access to amenities is close and hence there’s less need to drive.
READ: “3,337 Parisians were equipped with GPS trackers to record their journeys…for journeys from the outskirts of Paris to the center, the number of cyclists now far exceeds the number of motorists, a huge change from just 5 years ago.”

Evidence of leadership.

Do people still believe that electric cars are wildly expensive and only the super wealthy elite can afford them? Meanwhile tradie trucks (which often cost north of $100k) are good, solid working class vehicles.
