Maybe I should give it a go next year. I feel like I may have missed out on an important part of my education.

This is great stuff. Keep it coming.

Wine study facts.

And learning that the male pickers cleaned the sticky grape sugar from their hands by pissing on them. #neattrick

But the camaraderie, the shared mission, the solace in repetition, the conviviality? Knowing that your hard work contributed to making delicious wine?

No, me neither.

You're such a hard-bitten cynic.

Tryon Foothills is the newest AVA (American Viticultural Area) and the first to be confirmed in almost a year.

Probably only of much interest to the wine taxonomists out there, it's in Polk County, North Carolina, around 30 miles from the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway.

Don’t forget about the men who don’t want to be women but use the issue to shout at women anyway.

We can avoid US-style authoritarianism by simply not voting for it. But we need to ban foreign political donations to stop our elections being bought.

If you can't see how this will end, then you're not paying attention (not least to what's going on on the other side of the Atlantic).

We bought a Canon G3520 last year with refillable ink and it has not only been the most reliable printer we have ever had but we have yet to have to refill the ink wells. Well worth it if you use it regularly.

Black Rabbit starts really well, then I lost a bit of enthusiasm around episode 3 and then it finished really strongly, so stick with it! I’m really enjoying House of Guinness so far - some will think it’s a load of old nonsense but it’s great escapism.

we need a word for a type of person who spends all their time working to live in a city so they can be near cool things, but they don't actually like going out

People are already erasing their social media accounts just to visit the US, Tom. People are being disappeared by masked secret police and losing their jobs because of their political beliefs. We may disagree on exactly which month we are in 1933 Germany, but it’s still fascism.
radiofreetom.bsky.social
If we were living under fascism, none of you would be here daring to post things. You'd be erasing your social media accounts and keeping your head down; you'd know that peacocking your faux-bravery on a network would expose you to being disappeared.
You have no idea what "fascism" really means.
mouthfulofcavities.bsky.social
the regime is zip tying toddlers and ripping them away from their mothers unclothed... calling it fascism upsets this neo-con.

Publicity photos of wine people holding wine glasses are such a cliché. Like photos of senior executives on the phone.

Southern Glazer again. I suspect they may not be very good people.

"Briones accepted a series of gifts including a $2,290 designer bag; trips to HI & Las Vegas, including casino chips; golf trips to Pebble Beach, plus resorts in FL, OR & Cabo San Lucas [..] & more 'in exchange for his agreement to carry, increase purchases of, or prominently display certain wines."
Buyer at major California grocery chain took bribes to carry certain wines, prosecutors claim
The alleged bribes included luxury watches, designer handbags and trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas.

It’s shocking that they’ve taken it in house.

No, this is completely new because previously the police farmed it out to the Ku Klux Klan.

Congratulations to Europe’s Ryder Cup team for winning in the face of an abusive New York crowd, a very ugly atmosphere and the unsporting behaviour of some of their opponents. They won with humility and grace, praising the US for their incredible, late fight back. They set an inspiring example.

The QC of bottling plants in major markets isn’t an issue - quite the reverse. And I don’t see these writers balancing the issues of local workers and saving the planet from climate catastrophe. In fact I don’t see them discuss the issues at all. Just reciting the “heavy bottles bad” mantra.
davidroundmw.bsky.social
Given that you have for some reason totally misrepresented my argument (don’t worry, this seems to be a common rhetorical device), I was only talking about the glass issue rather than “other forms of sustainability” and here is what I said bsky.app/profile/davi...

The environmental impact of the wine trade's glass use is a complex issue requiring an understanding of wine legislation, fraud prevention, logistics and consumer perception.

Some prefer to weigh bottles. But that seems rather performative. I have issues...

My Wine Wall of Shame: The Heavy Bottle Dilemma in Wine Industry
Last week, I tried to figure out when I started mentioning bottle weight in my tasting notes. It has certainly been for several years now and I distinctly remember being out on a bit of an island w…

No, my issue is that people complain about heavy bottles for wines that are small production and hardly anyone drinks but never talk about the far greater problem of too much glass being shifted around the world unnecessarily for larger production wines. It looks rather superficial and performative.

I recently watched "Rise of the Nazis", an impressive 2019 BBC series featuring experts including #winesky favourite @gilesmacdonogh.bsky.social which traces Hitler's progress from becoming Chancellor in January 1933. Trump's progress seems more rapid, but unlike Hitler, he had a democratic mandate.
