One early one: I added a music prof (that I hadn't met IRL) at my university on Facebook. He added me back, listened to some of my music.

Some time afterward he invited me to sing/improvise solo on a piece he was commissioned to compose for Alvin Ailey Dance. It was huge for me at the time.

If we're all allowed to be labeled as "terrorists" for calling out fascists, the government will have an excuse to do whatever it wants to us.

I yelled about this back when the Patriot Act was debated. It's not fun being right.

Meanwhile Trump has declared "antifa" a "terrorist organization" - even though it's not an organization & is not terrorist.

But this country takes due process away from those it labels as "terrorists."

Trump is threatening to withhold back pay for federal workers furloughed during the shutdown — which goes against a law he signed in 2019, by the way.

This should come as no surprise: Trump and his businesses have been accused of stiffing hundreds of their own workers out of pay over the years.

Just saw that the directive not to arrest is coming from higher up - both Pritzker & Johnson.

It is a strategy to make sure Chicago/Illinois doesn't cast the first blow & give Trump et al an excuse.

Which I get & basically support, but man is it frustrating. I hope they've made the right call.

The answer seems to be basically: Yes.

CPD isn't stepping in, and they said on record that they're not intending to arrest federal agents even if agents violate mayoral EOs.

I don't know if that's a deliberate de-escalation strategy, but it certainly leaves laws & EOs with fewer teeth.

And immigration enforcement - which is being deployed against citizens as well - was recently handed a budget larger than most of the world's militaries.

I fully anticipate this getting worse before it gets better.

Chicago + Illinois are fighting.

If they're successful in stamping out resistance here - in a city that prevented Trump from even making campaign stops multiple times since he ran the first time - they'll move on to easier targets.
