Just finished Hesse's "Siddhartha", lining up Zelazny's "Lord of Light" to check off in the new year.
What’s everybody reading this week? You simply must tell us!

Christmas, the birthday of the Creator's radically non-transactional love incarnate, which we celebrate with transactional exchanges.

May we receive with joy and no unease about what we're unable to give back.

May we give with cheer and no expectation of quid pro quo.

"we are now further from"
is one of my favorites
Watching Gremlins (1984) with the eldest.
I hate to point this out but early in Gremlins, It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) is on TV.
We are now further away from Gremlins than Gremlins was from It’s A Wonderful Life.
Sorry.

Kind of a rough session DM'ing the characters' first foray into the caves in "Keep on the Borderlands" (adapted to 5E/2014). 1st level characters are so fragile! How did we ever do miniatures battles without dry-erase mats!

I've forgotten enough about salt/hash encryption that I'm stumped how to zip-encrypt a file server-side without storing the encryption password in plaintext somewhere. I can deal with getting old, but getting rusty is terrifying.

Mensa Mental Floss book nerd fare:
"Siddhartha", Herman Hesse, 1951 English translation of the 1922 German original, 152pp

42 holiday newsletters printed, folded, stuffed, addressed, stamped and mailed. I think this brings the missus much more joy than it brings me, but I admit it brings me a nonzero dose of joy.

The average smartphone user spends about 4.5 hours per day looking at their device, the vast majority of which time is "non-voice": asynchronous communications like email, texting, and social media; web browsing; gaming; and other non-telephony apps.

Back on the treadmill after a 2 week break. Shifting gears from regular 5K sessions to a timed HIIT format. 30 seconds is not much time at all, I can do 8.5mph sprints for 30 seconds.
