Are these the same pubs that can't find enough customers to stay open beyond 10pm?
hannahfearn.bsky.social
Why are the vibes so off with this government. The whole culture at the moment is about moderation and harm reduction, especially among the young and middle aged voters that Labour needs to cling on to if it's going to retain a coalition of support.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

It is a big bubble and it poses massive risk but the one mitigation that hasn't applied to other bubbles is that it's largely being underwritten by the enormous cash reserves of companies that have too much money and no real idea of what to do with it.

Wider markets might be sheilded

When Kemi Badenoch tells @channel4news.bsky.social that in Birmingham we elected "sectarian MPs" who is she talking about?

Perry Barr elected Ayoub Khan as an independent but he's a historic Lib Dem. Does she mean someone else?

I completed a form yesterday, to book a blood test, and someone rang me back within two minutes of me pressing submit.

The system can work

I sort of agree. I feel like I can avoid most of this stuff in my life but that seems to be changing. Last week we had the police protecting people putting up flags on lamp posts with a cherry picker because the community was vocally protesting about them doing it.

It feels like a real thing

Because no political party is trying to please the population as a whole?

All politics seems to have reduced to the narrow part of the population that can actually swing an election.

The election we are not having for many years

The Government persistently, and deliberately, misreprents how the asylum system works and the social context around it.

Everyone should listen to @snellarthur.bsky.social talking to @zoejardiniere.bsky.social in his most recent podcast

I don't think I've done any of these things.

When is my deportation date?
A pic from the labour party X account

Painting a fence, running the raffle, cutting the half time orange or even just that gentle knock on the door which checks your neighbour is alright. That's real Britain.

Having worked with volunteers and people managing volunteers it is true to say that people who are made to volunteer are not useful. They end up being a cost to an organisation
cambsforeurope.bsky.social
So, compulsory volunteering!

Also, what counts as community volunteering? How will it be recorded and verified, and at what cost? A lot of community volunteering is very informal by its nature.

This is what they've been wary of but you can't contort national policy in case a paper tells about 900k people something you don't like

There is an odd contradiction in telling migrants that they have to have a "BritCard" whilst also telling them we will make it as hard and as expensive as possible for them to achieve citizenship
"Great, you made it over! Come and work in my restaurant. You can sleep in the room at the back. Free food. And maybe a little bit of pocket money too."

"Sounds great."

"But first, let's see your BritCard digital ID showing your right to work."

"Foiled!"

@supergm.bsky.social I replied to your DM yesterday but now realise that the only reason I could see it was because I was outside of the UK.

Do you have any of my other contact details?

Ok. They’ve pissed me off.

I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards:

1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.
dazwright.com
There are going to be vanishingly few people, going into the next election saying "at least I've got an ID card"

Especially if it costs money which we keep getting told isn't available for hungry kids
