I will say this - sorry I’m so chatty about this - I’m very lucky bc just this year I published a 6k word essay on Substack and pulled an old audio interview of my dad off that computer. In some ways, I feel like the most important stuff made it out! But I will be so backup happy in the future.

It was indeed an elderly Mac. Just got the final word that it would be $1,200 to $2,500, I think (I tuned out after $1,200!) if they were even able to recover it. So, it’s gone. There goes my writing idea and research file, but I have a lot of other resources for my next project, so I’ll get by!

The tech situation is still ongoing until tomorrow. Thanks for making me laugh in the middle of a very bad week (for a number of reasons).

Now my dead computer is at another computer store overnight. If they can recover the data, it could cost anywhere from $250 to $2,500, which I will not pay. I will develop better backup habits going forward!

Exactly, he is so worried about my tech issues! Luckily, his photos are on my phone. I just got a call that the next step is a data recovery center affiliated with Apple. I’ll know tomorrow. Sigh!
