Elon knows people like him are not just a minority but a reviled one by most people in most countries so he is buying the illusion of popularity just like he purchased the false veneer of business genius, he's even using the same method

I can only imagine how that team is feeling today, after experiencing this disappointing moment at the Hugo Ceremony, and now not even being included in the apology. Please make this right. All of the Hugo finalists deserve to be celebrated and uplifted by the Worldcon. 2/2

Wow Sally Rooney. Fair play.

‘I feel obliged to state once more that… I too support Palestine Action. … If the British state considers this "terrorism", then perhaps it should investigate the shady organisations that continue to promote my work and fund my activities, such as WH Smith
and the BBC.’
ted.
In this context I feel obliged to state once more that - like the hundreds of protesters arrested last weekend - I too support Palestine Action. If this makes me a "supporter of terror" un-
der UK law, so be it. My books, at least for now, are still published in Britain, and are widely available in bookshops and even supermarkets. In recent years the UK's state broadcaster has also televised two fine adaptations of my novels, and therefore regularly pays me residual fees. I want to be clear that I intend to use these pro-ceeds of my work, as well as my public platform generally, to go on support-ing Palestine Action and direct action against genocide in whatever way I can. If the British state considers this
"terrorism", then perhaps it should investigate the shady organisations that continue to promote my work and fund my activities, such as WH Smith
and the BBC.

Treasury is required to produce a report to Congress related to Direct File, the free tax filing option that the current administration intends to kill. They've created a survey with a bunch of leading questions. The survey deserves some responses supportive of the program to counteract its framing:
IRS asks for public input on free tax filing options to inform congressional report | Internal Revenue Service
IR-2025-85, Aug. 21, 2025 — The IRS invites the public to participate in an anonymous feedback survey on tax preparation and filing options, which will run through Sept. 5, 2025.

I think Martha wells is most likely to get somewhere in the 4.5 range if murderbot gets one- hasn’t she stated that she will be rejecting any nominations for murderbot to let others get their flowers?

"How bad slavery was" is worse. Much worse. Much worse than you think, much worse than you're taught, much worse than museums depict. Worse.

This post is making me think of what @adapalmer.bsky.social said on the Rules were meant to be Broken, structures in society panel, talking about an importance’s of figuring out who ends up at the edges of whatever society you’re creating.

I don't know, I guess my opinion about worldbuilding tends towards "people on the margins of society have stories that are important and worth telling, and I am interested in reading about those people and their experiences" and this includes fantasy and scifi societies. that's really all there is to it. I'm not interested in fictional societies in which people specifically like me happen to not exist in the margins. I am quite interested in reading stories about people who exist in the margins but who might otherwise not be like me, in many ways. and I just think that this is not a perspective I ever hear people talk about or acknowledge the possibility of when there are discussions about whether or not fiction is either "cozy and escapist" or "all about miserable oppression porn"

3: going in a different direction, but on the topic of dragons – “to Shape a Dragon’s Breath” by Moniquill Blackgoose, one of my favorite books of last year. A masterpiece. If you haven’t yet had the joy of reading this one, I highly recommend it. (ft. some calligraphy I did when it came out)

I always get so much joy out of attending Worldcons - so many notes to take, so many wonderful people I meet for the first or second or fifth time. The best of the best is when I walk up to the table after a panel and someone goes “IT’S YOU”. and I get to go “it’s me :)” 💜
