You are assuming he didn’t. To the extent they are both aging legends whose abilities declined and they lost their guaranteed place in the team, I think they are comparable. Salah could choose to accept reality and support the team anyway he could, playing or not playing like Robo, but he’s not.

Salah not the only club legend to lose his spot in the team this season. Recent events provide some insight as to why one was made Vice Captain and one wasn’t.

It’s the double edged sword of singleminded greatness. He probably wouldn’t have achieved what he has without that mindset, but it’s clear he’s not up for the collective fight to get things right.

I expect we’ll still be building it for Slot. Not sure the profiles of what we need vary all that much as I doubt they’d be bring in a new manager with a wildly different approach.

When they set out to rebuild the squad this summer they committed to rebuilding the squad and it pretty clear more work was still required. I don’t see any reason to stop the rebuild and I doubt FSG will as well, in fact there is argument to bring forward some summer signings if they can.

I think Gakpo is generally fine if other parts of team/attack are working, but if it’s not and you need something a bit more or different from him, he seems incapable of delivering it on a regular basis.

I would simply play Rio or Chiesa from the start more often but we don’t for reasons 🤷‍♂️
