I feel similarly about the "we live in a post-truth society now" crowd. It's a fast way to know someone's understanding of history ends at whiteness. That they haven't studied colonization, read Memmi, Fanon, or Said, or even thought about the genocide or erasure of indigenous cultures in the US.

Addendum: I should say that what i mean is "there's an inherently evil and inherently good part of you, they are binary, you must subdue the bad part". I'm here for nuance in the meaning of good and evil. This is lacking in that though.

Also - as someone with OSDD - it is a little insulting.

The basics of it are just fantasy essentials from 90s JRPGs. Crystals, princesses, an evil God, etc. I've got no issue with genre conventions (I like Octopath traveler) but I find myself tired of the "there's a good and bad part of you, and you need to subdue the bad part to win" story.

The story behind this post is a particularly trite immersive experience that I've learned about. It's really relying on spectacle to step infront of questionable choices.

There is a genre of internet content that is "I just learned somebody active in a scene is a horrible person but I'm not going to tell you who".

And I hate it, because the comments inevitably turn into a guessing game wishing for the downfall of people in that scene based purely on vibes.
