While individual funeral homes can require embalming if you want to use their services, there is no state or federal law requiring it. Unless the cause of death was something highly contagious, unembalmed bodies don't cause disease. There's really no reason to embalm unless you want to! #deathsky

A new study published by JAMA Network shows the maternal mortality rate rose 27.7% in U.S. from 2018 to 2022. American Indian and Alaska Native people had the highest ASR (106.3 deaths per 100 000 live births), followed by non-Hispanic Black people (76.9 deaths per 100 000 live births)

Less than a decade ago Indiana legislators ran a campaign of fear and misinformation to block a bill legalizing aquamation, a green alternative to cremation. Yesterday, it was approved by a vote of 70-17.
